BlackCat Content Helping small businesses dream bigger and market better.

07/05/2026

It’s somehow already been a week since BrightonSEO 😅

We’ve been reflecting on some of the standout takeaways from the last few days:

1) Focus on customer pain points

2) Perfect data doesn’t exist in organic search; we can only work with the data we have available

3) Think about organic search as brand real estate, not just rankings

4) Build more thematic, audience-led content rather than relying purely on keyword research

Most importantly for small businesses: don’t panic about the changes happening in organic search. The fundamentals still matter, understanding your audience, creating useful content, and building trust.

BrightonSEO, we’ll see you shortly!

Last time, we were tie-dyeing tees and getting deep into conversations about how backlinking shapes long-term organic growth. Somehow, that doesn’t feel all that long ago.

Now we’re ready to do it all again, surrounded by some of the sharpest minds in search.

If you’re at BrightonSEO and up for a chat, drop us a DM. We’ll be around today and Friday and would love to connect.

“Found your name in the Epstein files…” and other questionable subject lines.

Your subject line is the first battle for attention in your inbox, but how far is too far? 👀

Open rates matter. But trust lasts longer.

Humour and shock can get the click, yes... but only if it actually fits your brand. Otherwise, you’re just attracting the wrong attention for the wrong reasons.

Get clear on your brand first; the subject line comes after.

You’ve probably heard the term “email nurture flow” before… but it’s not always explained in a way that’s easy to follow.

And honestly, it’s one of those things that sounds more complicated than it actually is.

So we’re stripping it right back.

This is our BlackCat Email Nurture Flow 101: what it is, how it works, and when it makes sense to use it.

If you’d like us to go deeper into it, just hit reply or send us a message, we’re happy to chat.

Do this… do that… wait no, don’t do that…

Trying to find advice online about your email marketing can be a headache!

There's so much contradicting advice, and it's difficult to know what to believe.

So, here are some basics around email marketing good practices to give you a leg up!

Read more about it here: https://www.blackcatcontent.co.uk/post/email-marketing-best-practices-every-small-business-should-know

For small businesses, email marketing is an affordable direct line straight to a huge, accessible audience. The problem however lies in what you’re sending out, and who you’re actually sending it out to, because although there’s a lot of people to speak to, you only want to be speaking to the ...

Email still works, and the data backs it up.

According to Sopro’s State of Prospecting, 78% of respondents said email is their top lead gen channel.

At BlackCat, we’ve always backed email. No channel is ever truly “dead” (despite what the SEO-is-dead crowd might say).

But it’s not one-size-fits-all. Their 2026 report breaks down the top 10 industries seeing the best lead rates from email.

So… does yours make the list?

Q1, that’s a wrap.

We’re already three months into 2026 (we can’t believe it either), and there’s already been some major news hitting the marketing headlines.

It looks like the book is closing on Mark Zuckerberg’s Metaverse. 🥽

The ambitious, multi-billion-dollar project promised to reshape how we live and work online… but it never really caught on.

Why didn’t it resonate? Probably because it felt like a solution looking for a problem. It didn’t offer anything people actually needed, and tech adoption rarely happens from curiosity alone.

Now, Meta is shifting its focus to AI (because… who isn’t?), and it’ll be interesting to see where this next chapter takes them.

20/03/2026

SEO is always evolving, but right now, it’s shifting in a more meaningful way than usual.

With the rise of generative AI search and LLMs, content isn’t just being ranked anymore, it’s being interpreted, summarised, and surfaced in completely new ways.

That might sound like a big change, but the reality is a bit more reassuring. The core principles of good SEO still apply: creating high-quality content, staying consistent, and regularly reviewing what’s working.

What’s changing is how that content gets discovered. Optimising for traditional search results isn’t quite the same as being visible in AI-generated answers.

If you’re not sure where to start, keep it simple: begin with your audience. What are they actually trying to find out?

Answer that well, and you’re already on the right track.

And if you’d like a bit of help navigating it all, just reach out 🙂

Finally, a marketing campaign for grammatical gurus!

We’re loving KitKat’s new “Take a Break” campaign that celebrates the similarity between the shape of their bars and the humble dash.

Smart and instantly recognisable. It takes everyday visuals, like a digital file name or flight abbreviations, to symbolise a break at different points of the day.
