Starting strong with a hero...

there's a term for when a webpage starts off with a rather large visual banner? It's called a hero image. But what if there is no image?

A hero statement can do the trick!

Talbot Capes' homepage starts off with a hero statement that clearly states WHAT they do & for WHO.

Why is this important?

It draws the target audience in & tells them immediately why this content matters to them.

And it goes without saying that having a mobile responsive website (a responsive website is a site that works on across devices) is a must. Browsing & buying on mobile devices is on the rise & having a responsive website means your content displays beautifully no matter what the visitor is browsing on.

What does / would your hero statement say? Let us know in a comment below, it's like the meta version of sharing elevator pitches 🙂

Do you know who's sharing your data? 🧐

Let's be honest - nothing in life is free. But the cost isn't always monetary, nowadays we're trading data, like browsing and purchase history.

The extent of sharing can be mind-blowing. When I went in to check my off-Facebook activity I was shocked to see it was nearly 1,000 sites! Seriously, my emoji face was basically me IRL.

That's not to say the data sharing is all sinister though - this isn't Minority Report (yet!). I totally get that it helps personalise ads for me and can make life more convenient.

But here's the thing - in a lot of cases the default is that a user opts-in to data sharing & it requires that user to then find the setting to opt-out. Full confession - I close pop-ups before I read them so maybe Facebook did tell me about this setting at some point & I just didn't read it, but if you're like me & also hate pop-ups, here's how to check your settings:

I shared my off-Facebook sharing count, care to share yours? Drop it in a comment below

TDH - 15yrs ago the iPhone was announced & the smartphone revolution began

& on that note, who's feeling a little bit older knowing the iPhone is 15?!

The iPhone's magical revolution started on Jan. 9, 2007 and helped Apple grow into a $3 trillion company over the next 15 years.

Is an image always best? Are links too boring? What video title would work better?

The answer, my friends, isn't blowing in the wind, it's to A/B test your Facebook posts with Post Test in Creator Studios

For posts like images, links & text you can test out the content (both written & visual)

For videos, there's the added element of testing out 'Title' variations

We've been using it for a client & it's been incredibly insightful to see what variation comes out as the chosen one.

Meta the details: https://www.facebook.com/business/help/942567712892076?id=203539221057259

Is post testing useful? Drop a comment below with the classic thumbs up / thumbs down (universal across the metaverse, surely?!)

We're back more than (mostly!) And I have to say a blue sky day makes the commute all the better - it even offsets the autumn chill in the air 🍂

So that all the health experts say? Get outside at least once a day!

Go on, blue skies await you!

Celebrating Tokyo Olympics with a suitably Olympic themed

✋ who has GREAT memories of the ? Pic 1 is Nick & I at the London Olympics Volleyball - what a setting! It was such a great experience & we absolutely got swept up in all the excitement.

Pic 2 is Alex meeting an Olympic hero, none other than the legend that is Daley Thompson

Are you tuning in to watch the Tokyo Olympics? I'm cheering on Britain's youngest ever Olympian who is a wonderful inspiration to my eldest who dreams of being a skateboard teacher.
