Ambassador Javier Figueroa presented his Letters of Credence to H.M. the Queen
He was invited by H.M. Elizabeth II to formally present his Letters of Credence yesterday and is now officially Ambassador to the Court of St James.
The Ambassador was escorted to Buckingham Palace by H.M. Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps, Alistair Harrison, and was greeted on arrival by Sir Philip Barton, Permanent Under-Secretary of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Due to the ongoing restrictions, H.M. Elizabeth II joined virtually from Windsor Castle in a candid conversation. Following the audience, he and his wife Alessandra Viggiano Marra, also a diplomat, were escorted back to the Argentine Residence in accordance with tradition.
The "letters of credence" are the formal documentation accrediting an Ambassador as head of a diplomatic mission. These letters, signed by the President of Argentina Alberto Fernández, were presented to the Head of State of the receiving country.
Nowadays, Ambassadors represent their country from the moment the copies of their credentials are delivered to the Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps. Mr. Figueroa delivered them upon arriving in the UK last September in a virtual audience with the deputy Marshal Victoria Busby.
