Tonight we helped Howard Cusden test fly his new balloon!

G-BRAP is a one of kind home build balloon. Built to the design specifications of former London based balloon manufacturer Thermal Aircraft.

The balloon was built in 2018 by John Yarrow from Easyballoons in Wendover. It is an active 77 with a stunning mix of colours across the balloon.

G-BRAP flew perfectly tonight and we put it through its paces. Northampton now has a new balloon which will be gracing its skies in the coming weeks and months.

Well done to Howard and family for the purchase. Thank you so much for letting us be a part of the first flight!

G-BRAP will hopefully be flying next weekend at the Leicester Balloon Festival.

We’ve had an absolutely fantastic day today at the University of Northampton STEAM event.

Whilst the weather didn’t allow us to tether our balloon. It meant we could do a full day of interactions inside.

We set up stations covering the different aspects that make the balloon work. This was really well received and we think we had well over a thousand children in and around the balloon over the course of the day.

Helen Goldring and Liam Goldring also debuted their amazing model balloon, built by them and Hannah Goldring. We had permission to fly it in the University atrium and it was a show stealer to say the least.

An amazing day, and we have been invited back for the 2027 Steam event. We will absolutely be coming back again.

Well against all odds and once again in between weather fronts we managed another flight from Wentworth Balloon Festival this evening! We flew alongside Vista Balloon Flights whilst three fantastic special shapes tethered for the crowds.

The conditions were spot on in the end and we made a lovely stand up landing at Montagu Academy in Mexborough. We had some help packing away from some lovely local children with their parents permission.

If you saw us this weekend please tag us and we hope to see you at an event soon.

Thanks to all those who chipped in over the weekend and helped us out and thanks to Matt and Chris for organising the balloon side of the event. As usual ever well organised with a good pilot package!

We had a great hour and twenty five minute flight this evening from the Wentworth Balloon Festival alongside three other balloons.

Perfect training flight with Liam Menzies at the controls with an intermediate and final landing all carried out with just a few prompts.

The locals are definitely not used to balloons as we had police, fire, ambulance and an air ambulance out to our landing site! Despite it being a perfect landing 🤣.

We have a number of events lined up in June.

First up on Saturday the 6th of June we will be at Wentworth Woodhouse for their inaugural balloon festival. We will be flying G-OAWS with our trainee pilot Liam Menzies weather permitting.

Then on Thursday the 11th of June we will be at the University of Northampton STEAM event for the day. We will be giving a number of demonstrations throughout the day both with our basket, kit and weather permitting a full size balloon. Trainee pilot Liam Goldring will also be hoping to display his new model balloon there too.

Next up from the 19th to the 21st of a June we will be at the Leicester Balloon Festival. We will be supporting the British Balloon Museum and Library flying the Maxwell House balloon over the weekend as well as one of our other balloons.

Lastly on Saturday the 27th of June we will be at the Burton Latimer Duck Race supporting Brotherhood Mens Groups CIC with our basket giving demonstrations and hoping to raise some money for their amazing cause.

As well as this we will be working hard to finish Liam Menzies training, flying for Vista Balloon Flights when the weather allows and working on other projects too!

Wow what an incredible end to a perfect weekend. In between two fronts of rain we managed another amazing albeit short flight out of Troutbeck Hot Air Balloon Festival this evening.

This time trainee pilot Liam Menzies had a training flight which was really good from start to finish. Liam handled the added pressure of meet flying and a new area really well and he nailed an awesome landing. Every landowner this weekend has been amazing too.

The rain is moving in again overnight so we are heading home now to save packing away soggy camping gear but what a weekend!

Considering this was a new event organised in a relatively short space of time it was ran incredibly well. An amazing welcoming atmosphere, friendly and helpful organisers, concise and accurate briefings plus plenty to enjoy in the local area away from flying. Not to mention a beautiful and challenging area to fly in.

We have been ballooning for nearly twenty years now and this is one of the highlights of that journey.

All this as well in aid of mental health charities and in honour of a well respected fellow pilot sadly no longer with us.

Roll on next year, rain, wind or perfect weather we will be there in support!
