A little light reading and research for the next pub sign that I am really excited about doing, it is going to be challenging and fun (this Isn't the picture that I will be painting).
I will need to come up with some new techinques to achieve the look that we want, signwriting enamel, as good as it is, has a very specific look, trying to capture the essence of a period piece to tie in with a building of a certain era is the order of the day, I will be documenting the process and attempt to do a better job than my appalling varnishing clip!

Back on the digital/vinyls for a while to catch up on things, busy prepping some more swing signs too, its nice to have a variation in the work, it keeps us engaged.

This is a first, 3 generations of signwriting in the workshop at once due to aquiring some of Joe Rouse's work, this is on the left, this was done in the 1980s by Joe, who taught my Dad, then...The Red Lion Southwold which is to me, the ultimate pub sign and will never be improved, Dad did this one and the one thats hanging now and he taught me, then there's mine, soon to be auctioned off for charity so watch this space...😁

Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone for their kind and encouraging coments, it really does mean a lot and makes the effort worth while, with that in mind and the interest in the Nelson that there seems to be, I've added some pics of my process, I don't consider myself an artist by any measure but it works for me, I'm a problem solver and I aproach the problem with three metrics, I have to get the right colours in the right shape in the right place, breaking it down to that makes the task less daunting. finally I would like to dedicate this sign to my Dad, whom I worked with from the age of eight until 35, then on and off until 50 after his retirement. We were more like brothers, we had the best time working together, we argued..yes, we also had a lot of laughs, literally crying with laughter on many, many occasions, I miss him dearly and hope that he would approve.
