I've just voted in the Yachting Journalists' Association Young Journalist of the Year Awards 2026 supported by Henri-Lloyd .

For the second year in a row we have seen an increase in entries from rising talent capturing the incredible world of sailing and all that it encompasses.

For some these awards may seem small, but they are so important, they help future writers, photographers and videographers get recognition for their work and it may just open that door they are looking for.

YJA Members, please stop what you are doing and vote today. Help give rising journalists the recognition they deserve.

My clients are involved in some pretty cool projects and more often than not we are under strict NDA's which means we are not able to talk about the equipment we are supplying or the yacht. So this one is special in a number of ways.

Firstly there are a number of key innovations on Sailing Yacht Zero and secondly we are allowed to talk about them.

So, if you want to know about how Sailing Yacht Zero will use her [Hundested] propellers to regenerate power get in touch and together we can provide all the answers you need.

Heading the Monaco Yacht Show in September? Catch up with the team from Hundested Propeller there alongside Ocean Marine Systems Limited on DS11 (the same spot as last year).

Both companies are part of the BSI Marine Equipment Group One Company. Nine Brands. Connected By The Sea.

Six sailors on the Merlin Rocket Owners Association Salcombe Week 2026 podium... 😉🏆

I'm pulling together some fun stats from across the fleet and will be sharing them over the coming days. If you'd like a copy, let me know.

The Merlin Rocket class is all about great racing, inclusivity, friendships and inspiring the next generation to get on the water.

Feeling inspired? Come and join us. With our 80th Nationals at the end of August, there's never been a better time to get involved.

Not all good news stories make the headlines, but this one deserves a moment.

At the weekend, 80 dinghies took to the River Thames for the Tideway Dinghy Derby 2026, supported by Laing O'Rourke. Sailing from Ranelagh Sailing Club to the Palace of Westminster and back again, competitors aged from 15 to 80 celebrated the success of London's super sewer, the Tideway Tunnel.

For anyone watching from the bridges, it must have been quite a sight. A fleet of Firefly, Merlin Rockets and handicap classes navigating the tides, commercial traffic and shifting conditions in the heart of London.

My three highlights from the day:

👏 Loreto, a student from Greig City Academy, sailor with the Scaramouche Sailing Trust and the first mentee on the Yachting Journalists' Association Mentor Scheme, joined Mark Jardine as part of the event media team.

👏 Six sailors from Greig City Academy and the Scaramouche Sailing Trust successfully navigated the Thames in ILCAs for the first time, handling challenging conditions and avoiding commercial traffic while competing in a highly competitive fleet.

👏 My Merlin Rocket restoration project (with the majority of the credit going to 🌊 Mark Barwell 🌊 and the team in Birmingham) enjoyed a successful outing, showing some moments of finesse 6th place finish in a fleet of 18.

At a time when the news agenda is understandably dominated by bigger stories, it's easy for positive community events like this to slip under the radar. But this event brought a community together, volunteers, sailors, sponsors and supporters to celebrate a cleaner River Thames and create opportunities through sailing.

If you can help share the story of the Tideway Dinghy Derby 2026, we'd love to hear from you. We have photography, video interviews and a full event report available.

A huge thank you to everyone behind the scenes, particularly Lucy Markby , Richard Westover and Edward Low. And none of this would have been possible without the support of Laing O'Rourke, Tideway London, Thames Water, Linklaters, Northcross Capital LLP and Port of London Authority.

Today is World Sailing Day, yes it is a thing.

Launched at boot Düsseldorf January 2026, World Sailing Day has the following core objectives.

💦 Increase public awareness of sailing and its benefits.
💦 Increase and grow participation.
💦 Strengthen sailing communities.
💦 Promote the sailing industry.
💦 Support the development and attainment of sustainable ocean-friendly goals.

Sailing is part of my everyday life, when I am not sailing, I am talking about it and writing about it. Today is a day for talking and writing about it.

Seriously what a great sport we are part of. One day you may find yourself lining up against Olympians, the next you are launching your 64 year old restoration project and another you are looking for dolphins with your nieces dangling over the side of the yacht. All of this is sailing.

If you are yet to have a go, would like to get back into it or want to find out more about getting into the industry, please, message me!

Happy World Sailing Day.

It's a rather busy time here at Box PR, and we are very much working through the process and coming up for air to make sure opportunities are maximised. Currently I have two clients in Vigo and 2 clients in the Faroe Islands all set for their trade show this week.

Wishing Hundested Propeller and Lyngaa Marine A/S two great shows! See you at Seawork in June!

Kate Porteous and I bringing the marine industry community together again for the Global Women’s Walk – Lymington 🌍

📅 Wednesday 13 May
🕥 Walk starts at 10.30am, meet at Lymington Town Sailing Club
📍 Sea Wall, Lymington

This 5km walk is about connection, fresh air, and supporting something bigger.

Last year, 1,200 people across five continents took part, raising £5,000 for Room to Read, helping fund literacy and gender equality programmes worldwide.

The impact is real:
– 96% of participants complete secondary school
– 77% go on to employment or further education

💙 New for this year
We’ve been given exclusive complimentary access to the sauna at Lymington Sea Water Baths before the walk (9–10am), thanks to Hello Outdoors. Spaces are limited, so make sure you book.

After the walk, we’ll head to Lymington Town Sailing Club for lunch - a chance to continue the conversation and connect.

If you joined us last year, you’ll know how special it was. If you didn’t, this is your invitation.

Register / reserve sauna / lunch: https://lnkd.in/e27-sQpw

Donate to Room to Read (and double it if your company matches): https://lnkd.in/eHhT_D9x

This year’s walk is coordinated by Kate Porteous, New Forest Creative and I, and we’d love to see you there.

A huge thanks to Metstrade, Marine Industry News and Soundings trade Only for putting this together.
