Today is World Sailing Day, yes it is a thing.

Launched at boot Düsseldorf January 2026, World Sailing Day has the following core objectives.

💦 Increase public awareness of sailing and its benefits.
💦 Increase and grow participation.
💦 Strengthen sailing communities.
💦 Promote the sailing industry.
💦 Support the development and attainment of sustainable ocean-friendly goals.

Sailing is part of my everyday life, when I am not sailing, I am talking about it and writing about it. Today is a day for talking and writing about it.

Seriously what a great sport we are part of. One day you may find yourself lining up against Olympians, the next you are launching your 64 year old restoration project and another you are looking for dolphins with your nieces dangling over the side of the yacht. All of this is sailing.

If you are yet to have a go, would like to get back into it or want to find out more about getting into the industry, please, message me!

Happy World Sailing Day.

It's a rather busy time here at Box PR, and we are very much working through the process and coming up for air to make sure opportunities are maximised. Currently I have two clients in Vigo and 2 clients in the Faroe Islands all set for their trade show this week.

Wishing Hundested Propeller and Lyngaa Marine A/S two great shows! See you at Seawork in June!

Kate Porteous and I bringing the marine industry community together again for the Global Women’s Walk – Lymington 🌍

📅 Wednesday 13 May
🕥 Walk starts at 10.30am, meet at Lymington Town Sailing Club
📍 Sea Wall, Lymington

This 5km walk is about connection, fresh air, and supporting something bigger.

Last year, 1,200 people across five continents took part, raising £5,000 for Room to Read, helping fund literacy and gender equality programmes worldwide.

The impact is real:
– 96% of participants complete secondary school
– 77% go on to employment or further education

💙 New for this year
We’ve been given exclusive complimentary access to the sauna at Lymington Sea Water Baths before the walk (9–10am), thanks to Hello Outdoors. Spaces are limited, so make sure you book.

After the walk, we’ll head to Lymington Town Sailing Club for lunch - a chance to continue the conversation and connect.

If you joined us last year, you’ll know how special it was. If you didn’t, this is your invitation.

Register / reserve sauna / lunch: https://lnkd.in/e27-sQpw

Donate to Room to Read (and double it if your company matches): https://lnkd.in/eHhT_D9x

This year’s walk is coordinated by Kate Porteous, New Forest Creative and I, and we’d love to see you there.

A huge thanks to Metstrade, Marine Industry News and Soundings trade Only for putting this together.

25th March 2026.

📆 84th day of the year
📆6211th day of Box PR Ltd
📆 Box PR's 17th birthday!

What did I do to mark the occasion?

As highlighted by friends is Sweden, thank you Baltic Lifejackets, 25th March is Våffeldagen. A day where they have thin, heart-shaped waffles topped with whipped cream and jam. Well if you insist, who am I to say no to that tasty feast.

Pictures is my treat. I went for the more chucky approach with ice cream, maple syrup and fruit to add a bit of colour, they were absolutely delish 😉.

What's your favourite waffle topping?

If you were given an extra hour in your day, what would you do with it?

Recently, a marketing apprentice asked me about their next career step. They talked me through their options, the different paths, the possible outcomes—and then asked for my advice. It made me pause and reflect on my own journey. The stages. The milestones. The people who shaped it, those I learned from, leaned on, and looked up to.

And now, someone was asking me.

What stood out most in our conversation was a sense of urgency. A need to move quickly. To get somewhere. But when I asked what that “somewhere” looked like, there was silence. They hadn’t really thought that far ahead.

It made me realise how easy it is to rush towards an endpoint we haven’t clearly defined.

I’m not a business coach, but I did recently spend time working through my values, and perhaps that’s influenced my thinking more than I realised.

A few years ago, a colleague said something to me that has stayed ever since: “You’ve been given the gift of time, go and enjoy it.” It was after a meeting had been cancelled.

So, a quick exercise. Go and open your calendar for this week.

- How many meetings do you have scheduled?
- How many clear spaces are there?

It doesn’t take much to fill a day. But it’s what happens in between that really matters.

A bit like the dash on a gravestone. There’s a birth date, a dash, and then an end date. That small line represents an entire life, full of moments only truly known by those who lived it or shared in it.

Last week, I had a meeting cancelled. I didn’t rush to fill it. Instead, I stepped outside, took in some fresh air, and made the most of the unexpected pause. The New Forest ponies were basking in the sunshine, it was simple, but genuinely uplifting.

When I returned to my desk, I felt more focused, more motivated, and more creative.

So next time you’re given an unexpected hour… will you fill it or use it?

Thank you New Forest Business Partnership for a lovely informative and conversational networking event at the Royal Lymington Yacht Club. Some lovely informative presentations with companies on very different journeys. Thank you to , The Build Purser, Maritime Solent and 1851 Group for sharing their businesses with us.

Conversations with friends, new connections made and some unexpected door opening opportunities.

My take away - Think beyond the product. Solutions can take time. In a world where everything is driven by speed and immediate action, sometimes we all need to slow down.

Last weekend it was the RYA Dinghy & Watersports Show an action packed weekend, full of some great conversations. Here’s one of them with Matt from PlanetSail. Thank you for stopping by Matt!

A great day 1 . It began with the International Breakfast Briefing, in conversation with the CEO followed by an informative panel including the CEOs from and and a representative from EBI. I am pleased I made the early start into the show for this session, it delivered. Do attend next year if you can.

It was then into the show to take a look round.

The day finished with a stop by my ‘must see yacht’ the 26 and was a delight as I had hoped. Only topped by seeing a familiar face on the stand! If you need crew to test sail, let me know?!

I’m back tomorrow to check out the sailing yachts equipped with my clients products on - , and .

Let me know if you are at the show or your best bits and I’ll go check the out
