Very interesting to overhear a chat between artists vehemently despising ai for taking creative work away from them, while also waxing lyrical about how incredibly useful it is to do all their marketing so they don’t have to pay someone. As I work in marketing and also sell my own artwork, it was genuinely fascinating.

We are funny contradictory creatures aren’t we? I was so tempted to slide them a business card on my way out in case they change their mind!

Random photo of my post-work glass of wine (with lemonade because I have childish tastebuds) and my failed attempt at gluing ephemera into my journal 🧡

I’m at Arts Marketing Association and if anyone’s here in Leeds too and thinking ‘these ideas are great but we don’t have team capacity to implement them’ then come chat to me about freelance marketing, comms or design support!

I sadly don’t have my dog in tow as this photo would suggest but I’m here and currently avaible for 1-2 new clients.

I’ve been in arts marketing for over 15 years now :-/ (old school text emoji to demonstrate my age and therefore extensive experience 😂 and modern emoji to demonstrate I’m not a complete dinosaur).

I support with marketing strategy, digital comms and design work, so do come and chat if you see me 🧡

I took a long lunch today to go see a fab piece of community-building theatre by for Didsbury Arts Festival. It was a beautiful and original performance and I got an extra treat too, when I saw so many people picking up and using the brochure that I designed for the festival.

It was a big project with a short turn around time but I loved every second. Shifting icons into alignment, filling placeholders, choosing photos, laying out adverts and adjusting kerning. Everything was done by me without a scrap of ai involvement (aside from the Godfather of ai… spellcheck).

I was reminded of the joy of this project by the fabulous collaged poster of the event that I went to see, as well at the brilliant Access Training Academies, counter-ai billboard I spotted just down the road. Both good reminders that not only can ai not do everything but (from my own experience) even when it can, sometimes it’s nicer, more original and far more rewarding to do it yourself.

I came here to write a meaningful post. I even considered asking AI to help because right now I’m a bit mentally drained thanks to the stark reminder this week of how delicate and under threat the arts sector is with not one, but two of my regular clients having their longstanding funding pulled.

To be honest though, all I have to say are these two things…

🎟️ Please support the organisations and events that you love by buying tickets (the earlier the better), merch or donating.

🔍 If you need any marketing or branding support, my books are open and I could really do with filling the gaps in my schedule and finances. So, I would love for you to reach out for a non-pushy (because pushy sales gives me the ick) chat!

I’m excited to be kicking off 2026 working on the marketing for ***rContact in my role at . This annual Q***r arts festival is back this February with two weeks of music, comedy, theatre, art, market stalls and more. With lots of free or £3 events, so do check them out.

Shout out to for this stunning photo from last years show. It was such a dream to be able to use their photos for the Q***r Contact banners 🧡

I’m excited to be working on this years panto at who have got the incredible team at in to perform Rumplestilstkin. Which is extra magical and rare because it’s made right here in Manchester with professional Mancunian actors and crew instead of being shipped up from London.

I’m managing the whole marketing campaign from strategy and social media through to design and developing audiences and this week I’ve been having particular fun designing the billboards and lamppost flags, which will be going up around Manchester next week, so keep your eye out!

Also, confession time… I’ve never actually seen a panto before, so I’m doubly excited to simply be in the audience for this one too 🧡

It was great to be back working with last month on their new touring theatre show ‘After Party’. Aimed at babies and young toddlers, all of Hurly Burlys work introduces babies to music, nature and sensory play in the most beautiful way.

It’s a real pleasure to be able to create content for them and share their work. Plus the photos of the happy babies and their relaxed parents are just joyful to see. I mean look at this red carpet worthy entrance that captured at their recent photoshoot!

A little round up of some of my favourite moments from Festival. I was back for the third year running to plan and manage all of their marketing throughout the year, as well live event promotion and content creation during the brilliantly busy and incredibly fun festival itself.

It’s honestly one of the highlights of my year every time and and create such a beautiful and welcoming vibe for crew, musicians and audiences alike 🧡

They just announced their 2026 dates and will be doing a call out for musicians soon too, so give them a follow!

So, I’ve been so very happily busy helping clients with their marketing and comms that I’ve completely neglected my own… Classic case of ‘do what I say, not what I do’.

So, hello again! I’m Rebecca, a Marketing, Communications and Branding freelancer with 14+ years experience helping arts and heritage organisations and creatives tell their stories in clear, authentic and simply effective ways.

I’m going to start using this space to share some of the fab projects I’ve been working on, as well as to connect with people. So do say hello or leave a comment 🧡

If we haven’t met yet… hello and welcome! And if we have, then thanks for sticking around while I finally practice what I preach.

I had a lovely start to the week, spent coworking with a fellow freelancer. While I was handling social media scheduling, sketching out signwriting ideas, and sending a quote to a repeat client, she was studying for her master’s in nutrition and setting up her own practice. It was so enjoyable to work alongside someone, even though our fields are completely different.

As a freelancer, work can sometimes feel a bit lonely, and that’s definitely led to a lack of motivation and accountability for me in the past. That’s why coworking - even with someone in a totally different line of work - can be so valuable. Having someone nearby, whether for a quick chat or just as a quiet presence, helps to create a sense of accountability, even if your tasks have nothing in common. We might be ‘teams of one’ as freelancers, but that doesn’t mean we have to work alone!

🧡 Also… Shout out to the man that kindly offered to take this photo when he saw me propping my phone up against a vase. Turns out he had my dream childhood job… working in museums with the dinosaurs!
