Sometimes I tell myself, "Jemima, you don't need to rewrite that slamming headline for the fourteenth time…" 😣

Thank god my name isn't Jemima.

If you're a regular or new here, hey. I'm your friendly neighbourhood copywriter, content strategist and LinkedIn marketer. (Not Jemima.)

I'm the one who's physically incapable of leaving an almost there but not quite headline alone, because I'm so obsessed with words earning their crust.

And now, everyone else is churning out AI slop by committee. But not this gal. Hell no, I'm over here sweating every sentence, because I genuinely believe great copy is the difference between crap and cash.

So, if you want a fab copywriter and biz dev ray of sunshine to:
✨ Make your brand sound like your logo if it could speak
✨ Turn dry topics into stuff people actually bother about
✨ Get LinkedIn earning the right eyes in your direction
…then we're going to be wordy NBFs 💅🏼

Follow me and come say hola in in the DMs if this sounds like a bit of you. I don't bite (much).

Why I think everyone should get up off their backsides, get their game faces on, and show up IRL. 😎

The May bank hol weekend kicked off gorgeously at Malmaison Manchester Deansgate Sora rooftop bar and restaurant's new menu sampling, washed down with a "one for the road" too many.

But, hey, it wasn't a school night. Je ne regrette rien.

Highlights included:

🌞Avo-wrapped rice parcels and mushroom skewers
🌞Pole position with panoramic views of the sizzling Manchester skyline at dusk
🌞Another reminder, like we should need any reminding, why in person = everything

So, a stonking great thank you to Kerry Truelove and Amber Morgan for your generosity and good vibes. You're the righteous ones the sun shines on, and didn't it just do what it says on the tin? Bliss!

Face to face connection still gets relationships over the line faster than an email sequence or LinkedIn message... and that's coming from a copywriter, content strategist and LinkedIn marketer.

As for AI-generated outreach, don't even go there. I hardly dare even mention it at the risk of being struck down by lightning for crimes against marketing, nay, against human dignity. ⚡

Same time, same place next week? Maybe not. But the memories are firmly made.

No criteria. Immeasurable ROI.

"With the right footwear, one can rule the world." - Bette Midler. 🥾

Last night, I transformed an unremarkable, scuffed pair of boots into a glittering and glorious pair of bobby dazzlers at a shiny shoe workshop with the brilliant Marcie K Design.

Well, it's what I do for a living kind of, isn't it? No biggie.

👠Sand away the feature-led waffle, corporate jargon and AI fluff
👠Section it off, structure it properly, and make it look appealling to read
👠Prime it with tone of voice and lay the foundations of key messages
👠Bootjazzle it, sparkle up the juicy benefits and the humanity AI can't churn out at the push of a button
👠Buff and refine, edit it until every word earns its place or jogs on

Yep, this is what I do for your website, landing pages, case studies, email sequences and LinkedIn marketing.

Oh, and the venue was a revelation. The Yard in the Fashion Quarter is a converted school I'd never heard of and I'm really impressed with. 😍

It's got studio space, meeting space, rehearsal space, and a big outdoor space for summer events. People need to know about it, and I highly recommend my many event contacts to make friends with it.

So, fill your boots if your word stuff doesn't seem to be pulling its weight at the moment. Let's be having you.

Only 1 in 10,000 podcasts make it to 100 episodes. So. it's worth celebrating when you do. 🎙

Last night I joined a room full of fellow podcast guests for the centenary celebrations for MCR SEO LTD's James Crisall's People of Performance podcast.

The Loft Social provided the ideal backdrop and vibe, besides being one of many reasons Stockport isn't s**t. 😉

Mega kudos to James for getting well out of his comfort zone and building something genuinely compelling.

What I enjoy about it is every guest is a relatively ordinary Manchester businessperson doing extraordinary things, whether they realise it or not. Everybody has a story worth hearing. And James has consistently shown up to give them a platform.

I listen to every episode on release, even when the topic isn't my bag. That's the point, it isn't just about the topic.

Going home with a Bele Brownies & Co. treat was a bonus, and bagging a raffle prize on behalf of Visyon - cheers! 🍸

Here's to the next 100, James. I salute you. 🥂

PS My episode's (47), about AI, SEO, copywriting, and probably some strong opinions. It's worth a listen, though I say so myself.

I legged it down to Poole for You Are The Media's annual Creator Day - allegedly a marketing conference for professional misfits. 🌊

For this particular professional misfit? A little piece of heaven.

It started on a natural high the night before at Matt Denyer's Failed Nights.❣

This year, I took to the mike, alongside Sarah Burgess and Jon Jenkins, sharing deeply personal stories about when work and life throw you limes, but you somehow manage to dig deep and crack open the lager.

It was soul soaring catharsis. I floated back to Manc on Friday on Cloud Nine.

Then Creator Day itself:

❣Matt King - The opening video was inspired, funny and BEAUTIFUL, you talented dude.

❣Michelle Goodall - Community is a reciprocity engine built around people with a common unity, greater than the sum of their parts, who genuinely care about each other. Put stuff in. Withdraw when you need to. (YATM 10/10)

❣Jon Alexander - We've built a consumer democracy based on self-interest, and it's hard to hold ourselves in two worlds at once as the dominant system of influence declines. A different relational world is coming, by the citizens, for the citizens.

❣Katie Stokes - Third spaces, where we exist, socialise, interact and just be between home and work. (YATM 10/10)

❣Gus Bhandal - Who looks after your name when you're not in the room? Build trust transfer on LinkedIn and you're standing with an army.

❣Lea 🌈 Turner - Live your values out loud, inside and outside your community.

❣Phill Agnew - The NaS concept, where the sweet spot sits between newness and safety. Familiar enough to feel warm and fluffy. Radical enough to inspire.

And I want to bring it back round to where this all began...

❣Mark Masters - I think you know you've created something special. And you should. I, for one, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Keep being you. Keep doing what you do. And I can't wait to help bring a bit of YATM magic to Manc in the autumn. 🐝

Have you ever rolled up somewhere not quite knowing what to expect? You should try it sometime. It might just rock your world.

Wondering why the hell your favourite self-confessed tech dinosaur would bosh in for National Technology Day? Well, let me tell ya...🦕

I nearly talked myself out of a client referral to a global name in cloud and edge-based IT services.

There was serious money on the table. But my inner monologue was piping up: "There are far better suited technical copywriters who'd bite their hand off. Why on earth do they want little ol' me?"

I understood exactly once I got past their technobabble and my raging imposter syndrome...

The decision makers they needed to win over sometimes weren't much more tech-native than me.

For this reason, their million pounds conversations suffered from plain English scarcity.

So, what did I do?

🐱‍🐉Stripped out the jargon without dumbing down the business benefits
🐱‍🐉Dug into the pain points decision makers lose sleep over
🐱‍🐉Wrote something human, relevant, and ridiculously readable

At the end of the day, they didn't need someone who speaks fluent DevOps, but someone who repeatedly asks "But why though?" - and refuses to stop until it makes sense to a junior school kid.

Do your prospects need a glossary to understand your products or services? Then you have a copy problem we should talk about.

I'm not famous. I'm a copywriter, content strategist, LinkedIn marketer and little ray of biz dev sunshine. ✍

If you're a founder, marketer, or sales-led business who's tired of copy by committee, or, God forbid, shatbots, I hope this post finds you.

MY APPLICATION TO BE YOUR NEXT FAVOURITE CONTENT QUEEN TO FOLLOW:

👉 I've been writing for business for 25+ years, before content strategy was even a phrase.

👉 My sweet spot is hospitality and events. But I've worked across industries so niche, I once went down a rabbit hole of umbilical cord blood banking. It still haunts me.

👉 I'm allergic to jargon, buzzwords, and copy to "leverage end-to-end solutions and synergies." 🤮

👉 I'd stake my pom pom fruit and veg collection the best B2B copy sounds like a talanted human wrote it, because a talented human did.

👉 I'll tell you when your existing content or AI workslop is offensive. Nicely. But I'll tell you.

Yep, it's one of my goals is to build a community of life's good eggs here who give a rat's ass about the words representing them.

Algorithm, do your thing. 🙏

Not bad going after rocking up last year as an intrepid noob. 🌊

This year I'll be striding into You Are The Media Creator Day like I own it, starting with speaking at Failed Nights the evening before.

Failed Nights at the Foundry is where Creator Day starts. Matt Denyer had the idea for people to arrive, settle in, and feel like you're already part of it, ahead of the main event.

I'm stepping forward to let my guard down and share the parts of life and work that don't go to plan, alongside Sarah Burgess and Jon Jenkins. 🥰

Well, stuff gets messy. It's part of the rich tapestry we call life. And it reminds us none of this is meant to be done alone.

We'll close and cheer together, not with answers, but with a shared understanding things can be difficult, and being open about it makes it a bit more ok.

Thanks for the opportunity, the perfect description and, well, the whole kit and caboodle Mark Masters. 🦸‍♂

The fabulous lineup on the day itself includes people I'm proud to call friends Gus Bhandal, Phill Agnew. 🥰

And I'll be clutching my copy of Freelancer Magazine to bag free booze at the joint after party and magazine's 5th anniversary ra-ra. 🥰

Not forgetting I was faster than a whippet out of a gate bagging my seat at the live recording of another friend Mel Barfield's indie business club podcast. I presume friend of the show Angela Lyons will be there with bells on too. 😍

Last but not most or least, the harbinger of equal parts exhilaration and terror... The Sandbanks Sea Dip at 7.30am. The local contingent do it every week, in all weathers.

I have no regrets. Yet. 😱

Will I see you at the seaside?

Apparently, people still don’t know this... 😉Of course, I'm taking about LinkedIn's cheeky little 10 second audio record...

Apparently, people still don’t know this... 😉

Of course, I'm taking about LinkedIn's cheeky little 10 second audio recording on the headline section of your profile. What else would it be? 😂

In fact, I talked about a whole lotta LinkedIn at yesterday’s W!NK monthly networking session, at the newly rebranded The Rex - formerly Hotel Gotham Manchester.

Different name, same chi chi vibes from the second you walk through the door. Good luck to Jenny Oh, Melanie Thompson and the team with the transition. 🤞

Back to my short, snappy speaker slot.. I shared eight actionable tips for more awareness, visibility and demand generation, without getting stuck on the hamster wheel or channelling your inner snake oil salesperson.

I’m doing more LinkedIn marketing and team training than ever right now, because there’s a ma-hoo-sive difference between dipping in and out under duress and doing it enjoyably and fruitfully.

Huge thanks to organiser Yvonne Dixon for having me, and to the lovely group for your ears and kind seal of approval.

Fancy joining next time?

It's Thursday 21st May, 1.00 - 2.30pm. No charge. Just bring yourself and buy a drink if you want one. Connect with Yvonne to get in the loop.

And ask me anything about LinkedIn in the comments. Let's see if there's any dilemmas we can work out.

I stood there thinking, "How the heck did that happen?" 😮

2️⃣5️⃣ years. A quarer of a century.

Me and Tricia Gibbs went on the first ever pre-opening hard tour at the The Lowry Hotel when we were at Marketing Manchester, with the opening Sales & Marketing team Mark Lyndon and Anna Truman.

The city's hospitality product buzzed in anticipation of our first five star hotel, courtesy of hotel maestro Sir Rocco Forte.

And it hasn’t aged a day.

The current team, which still includes some Day 1-ers, welcomed us with:

🪩A vodka luge
🪩Disco balls everywhere
🪩Classy bowl food
🪩Bubbles
🪩Branded cupcakes
🪩Magic by Jason Rea
🪩Funky vibes

Great job Vicky Seddon and all for sharing this wonderful occasion with us. 🥂

Here’s to the next 25 years…

Many of us OGs will have long since hung up our clipboards and laptops by then. There’ll be an entirely different set of faces, doing much the same thing, just circa 2051.

Imagine what the industry and work in general will look like then. 🤖
