YouTube first...

I get a lot of people come to me with existing success on TikTok and Instagram from their videos and they ask why I am still YouTube first when it comes to the marketing strategy.

YouTube is the biggest streaming platform, on TV it surpassed Netflix. It’s #1 for podcasts, bigger than Spotify and Apple.

Its the second biggest search engine and second biggest social media platform.

Its overtaken Reddit as being cited in LLMs.

It’s the top destination for educational content. It’s the top platform for music discovery, bigger than TikTok. 53% of kids aged 2–12 are on YouTube.

The next closest app is TikTok at 41%.
Every generation. Every interest. Every format. YouTube has them all.

ALSO and more importantly... The YouTube algorithm is more sophisticated and is learning from more data than ANY OTHER PLATFORM.

When doing SEO we would optimise for Google first, because getting everything right on Google meant a higher chance of doing well in Yahoo and Bing (don't sleep on Bing).

The same with YouTube, TikTok and Meta are constantly catching up with YouTube in terms of the recommendation engine and personalised videos, they are working on retention times and hooks.

So if your strategy is around YouTube, you can much more easily and cost effectively repurpose on other platforms for a higher success. This is topic selection, scriptwriting, hooks, editing, packaging, data points, calls to action etc...
