This team has been absolutely amazing at making adjustments and understanding me as a person, they’ve supported me in to main stream football over the recent months.
If you’re ever wondering what I’m doing outside of my designs… you can find me on a pitch somewhere representing these guys. Please give their page a visit and show this local team a bit of support for their hard work and inclusion. 😄

This October, Shaw Heath Bees FC are proud to support Selective Mutism Awareness Month, a cause that's particularly close to our hearts as one of our players lives with this disorder.
Selective Mutism (SM or sometimes referred to as Situational Mutism) is an anxiety disorder that makes it difficult for individuals to speak in certain social situations, despite being able to communicate freely in comfortable settings, such as at home.
As a team and the Bee Family, we believe in creating a supportive and understanding environment for all players, regardless of any challenges they may face. For our teammate with Selective Mutism, it's essential that we show empathy, patience, and acceptance, ensuring he feels included, respected, and comfortable both on and off the pitch.
Raising awareness is crucial because many people still don't fully understand Selective Mutism. By spreading the word, we can help others recognise that SM is not a choice or a reflection of a person’s abilities but a genuine struggle with anxiety. Together, we can break down misconceptions and create more inclusive spaces for everyone.
Here are some ways we support our teammate with Selective Mutism:
1. Respect his communication style: Understand that speaking might be difficult in certain situations, so we need to be patient and not pressure him to talk such as on the pitch, he may struggle to ask for the ball.
2. Create a supportive atmosphere: Encouraging non-verbal communication and making sure he feels part of the team, whether through gestures, signs, or written words.
3. Promote understanding: Educating ourselves and others about SM to reduce stigma and foster a more inclusive community for all.
The whole team are committed to supporting him and anyone else facing similar challenges, showing that football is for everyone. By standing together, we can make a difference both on the pitch and in the wider community.
Let’s use this month to raise awareness, build understanding, and encourage compassion. Together, we are stronger.
