"When I was three, I wanted to be four. When I was four, I wanted to be prime minister." Yesterday I met Lord Jeffrey Archer who is an English novelist, former politician, and peer of the realm. Before becoming an author, Archer was a Member of Parliament (1969–1974), but did not seek re-election after a financial scandal that left him almost bankrupt and 400k out of pocket after a disastrous investment. He had to resign his candidacy in 1999 after it emerged that he had lied in his 1987 libel case. He was imprisoned (2001–2003) for perjury and perverting the course of justice, ending his elected political career.
He revived his fortunes as a best-selling novelist; his books have sold around 330 million copies worldwide and he was in this weeks The Times top 100 Rich List.
He certainly has had a very colorful life and is famous for holding Shepherds Pie and Krug parties for prominent people at his London home! One of his famous quotes, as above reminds me of myself, NO not wanting to be prime minister but to be able to employ people and make Manchester Printers the place to go for anything printed! I think we are certainly getting there don't you?

Just recently I was lucky enough to meet and have lunch with Lord Sebastian Coe and listen to him as he described his ventures as a former track and field athlete, British politician and the Chairman of the successful London bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympics. As a middle-distance runner, Coe won four Olympic medals, including the 1500 metres gold medal at the Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984. He set eight outdoor and three indoor world records in middle-distance track events – including, in 1979, setting three world records in the space of 41 days – and the world record he set in the 800 metres in 1981 remained unbroken until 1997. Coe's rivalries with fellow Britons Steve Ovett and Steve Cram dominated middle-distance racing for much of the 1980s. Following Coe's retirement from athletics, he was a member of parliament for the Conservative Party from 1992 to 1997 for Falmouth in Cornwall, and became a Life Peer on 16 May 2000. He headed the successful London bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympics and became chairman of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games. It was made quite obvious to me that none of this would have been possible without having the right team behind him at every stage and the importance of the attention to detail in which he spoke about very frequently. Here at Manchester Printers we have the same philosophy, we have an outstanding team that delivers your products right first time every time with attention to detail guaranteed. So the next time you need something printing look no further than Manchester Printers.

Manchester Printers continues expansion with Versafire EP digital press. Rapidly expanding Manchester Printers will take delivery of a Heidelberg Versafire EP next month, completing a series of investments that will give the company 25 to 30% greater capacity and add about £400,000 to the group’s £2.3 million turnover. In December, Manchester Printers acquired Berkeley Business Forms, a print management company that has operated from its Deeside, North Wales, base for 30 years. This will increase the business handled by Manchester Printers, based in Trafford Park, which at the end of last year added a guillotine and booklet maker and which, in addition to the Versafire EP, has placed an order for a second hand Printmaster 52 two colour litho press (with NCR work in mind). ‘We are well established in digital print,’ said group managing director Gavin Page. ‘We have to date been a Konica Minolta house but as we look to the next stage of development (a three year plan) we needed the Heidelberg Versafire EP. We did test equipment from both companies but the Versafire means we can handle a heavier weight of paper (up to 470 g/m2) and print on textured stock with superb print quality. The speed and reliability also really impressed us and the banner sheet extension means we can handle A4 landscape brochures. ’The Versafire has been supplied with Heidelberg’s digital front end which features an uncoated simulation for better print quality on uncoated work. Manchester Printers handles a wide range of commercial work but with an emphasis on brochures and flyers. It has an interactive website where customers can tap into standard formats for economical print solutions or use the expertise of ‘Gavin, Doctor of Print’.

Manchester Printers boosts growth with BBF buy
Manchester Printers has acquired print management firm Berkeley Business Forms (BBF) in a bid to move into the North West and North Wales markets.
Based in Trafford Park, Manchester Printers completed its purchase of BBF on 14 December after being approached last month by then-owner Melissa Chaaya.
Chaaya inherited the business from her father-in-law and company founder David Mortlock when he passed away in late 2017 and spent the subsequent months looking for a buyer before landing on Manchester Printers as the best fit.
While Chaaya has now exited the business, all four BBF employees have stayed on-board and will continue to work at its Flintshire base.
Manchester Printers managing director Gavin Page said: “We were approached in the middle of last year and when we sat down with them it was clear this would be a perfect fit – they are a very clean company with a great client base.
“As a print management company with no onsite manufacturing, they will be able to make use of our wide range of print equipment for their B2B customers. From our perspective, the acquisition of their premises gives us a presence in the North West and North Wales.
“Our interlocking services open up new possibilities for both companies and for our client bases, as well as granting the ability to invest in new equipment, which has already begun.”
Page, who is now managing director of both Manchester Printers and BBF, will split his time between the two premises as they are approximately 50 minutes drive apart. BBF will retain its brand identity and the majority of its jobs will be processed by its new parent company, with a portion still placed elsewhere.
The company now has a turnover of £2.3m – £1m from BBF and £1.3m from Manchester Printers – and undergone an investment drive that will see the introduction of a new Heidelberg Versafire EP digital production system, due to arrive next month.
Other incoming investments include an upgrade across both firms’ IT systems and the installation of Enfocus Switch automation software.
In the past three months, Manchester Printers has also taken on a B2 guillotine from Ideal, a Duplo DBM 150 bookletmaker and a Vivid Matrix Omni-Flow deep-pile feeder to serve its Matrix MX-370 laminator. The digital and wide-format print output on its 280sqm base includes equipment from Konica Minolta and Mimaki.
Manchester Printers employs 14 members of staff, with BBF bringing the headcount up to 18. According to Page, the firm’s goal is to reach a turnover of £5m by 2022.
