Our Story

The Natural Workshop was set up in 2013 by Michelle in our garage. Child care was expensive and we needed a way for her to earn a wage whilst still being able to help raise our children. The business grew from strength to strength and in July 2017 we took on our fi

rst real business premises. Since then we have expanded and I left my full time job as a Surveyor in May 2018 to work full time as a partner in the business. We work hard to have the right work life balance between running a small business and being there for our children. Since opening our doors, we’ve been committed to providing service of the highest quality, paying particular attention to working efficiently while keeping the lines of communication with our clients clear and concise. We have a fully kitted out workshop and have years of woodworking experience, because of this we are able to give a well rounded approach to your product needs and fully understand how to approach your design ideas.

We work with private individuals, small and big businesses alike and we are happy to accommodate any sized order that you might have, from a single unit all the way up to 1000`s of units being required. Perfect trim before the main cut...

My favourite way to start a housing joint on larger timber, use the Festool to cut the shoulders and clean the main section up with a router.

Everyone talks about the apprenticeship crisis.

Very few people talk about what it actually costs to train an apprentice.

Over the years I've heard a lot of discussion about young people not wanting to work, skills shortages and a lack of apprentices entering the trades, but I think we're missing part of the picture.

An apprentice doesn't arrive on Monday and immediately make money for a business.

For months, and sometimes years, they're an investment.

An investment in:

• Time
• Training
• Supervision
• Equipment
• Mistakes
• Productivity

That's not a complaint.

That's how we all learned.

The problem is that businesses are trying to make that investment at the same time as dealing with:

• Rising wages
• National Insurance increases
• Higher insurance costs
• More expensive materials
• Energy costs
• Business rates

I genuinely believe most tradesmen would like to see more young people entering the industry.

We need them.

The average age in many trades is increasing every year.

The question isn't:

"Do employers want apprentices?"

The question is:

"Can employers afford apprentices?"

Until we start addressing that question, I think we'll continue talking about the apprenticeship crisis without fixing the cause.
