🚋 Historic Leas Lift Restoration Reaches Another Milestone!
An eight-foot-wide sheave wheel has returned to Folkestone’s historic Leas Lift, bringing the restoration of the Grade II* listed landmark another step closer to completion. 🛠️
The specially designed replacement will guide the cables connecting the two carriages as they travel between the seafront and promenade. The original wheel could not be safely restored, so a new one was manufactured with support from £200,000 in Historic England funding.
First opened in 1885, the Lift could become one of only three remaining water-balanced lifts in the UK when it reopens.
