To better reflect the strength, seniority, and expertise of its team, SIGNAL - a leading alternative investment firm - partnered with Motel to transform its brand and digital presence, strengthening its appeal to investors, opportunities, and top-tier talent.

We began with a brand strategy phase, defining SIGNAL’s positioning, tone of voice, and key messaging to capture its expertise and forward-thinking investment approach. From this foundation came the new tagline - “Reading Signals. Finding Value”- expressing the firm’s analytical precision and its ability to uncover opportunity within complexity.

From there, we created an authoritative new visual identity, including a refreshed logo and a comprehensive set of guidelines to ensure clarity and consistency across all communications.

Our collaboration spanned every touchpoint:
Brand Imagery: A blend of AI-generated abstract visuals and original photography, reflecting SIGNAL’s innovative yet human approach.
AGM Design: Creative direction and production for the annual presentation, including large-format stage backdrop design and print setup.
Digital Experience: A new website designed and built to showcase SIGNAL’s offering and expertise through an elegant, intuitive interface.
Branded Assets: Custom templates for presentations, business cards, and email signatures — ensuring confident, consistent communication.
Social Media: A suite of branded templates and profile assets for a cohesive digital presence.

This work marks a confident new chapter for SIGNAL - aligning its visual identity and messaging with its global vision and forward-looking investment philosophy.

50 Years of Concorde: A Masterclass in Design

Fifty years on, Concorde remains one of the most striking examples of design-led engineering the aviation world has ever seen. Every line had a purpose. The elegant ogival delta wing wasn’t just beautiful - it enabled sustained supersonic flight. The slender fuselage, drooping nose, and tightly integrated engines reflected a time when performance, physics, and aesthetics were inseparable. Nothing was ornamental, yet everything was iconic.

What makes Concorde especially compelling is that it was born from mid-century optimism. Its roots lie in studies of the 1950s and early 1960s - an era fascinated by speed, progress, and a technologically advanced future. While not strictly Mid-Century Modern in aesthetic terms, Concorde embodies mid-century futurism in spirit: a belief that design and engineering could work as one to reshape how the world moves. Conceived in that era, first flown in 1969, and entering service in 1976, it became a late-20th-century reality built from mid-century dreams.

Even its name tells a story of collaboration and ambition. First unveiled as Concorde in 1963, the name reflected the Anglo-French treaty that made the aircraft possible - a symbol of harmony and shared vision. Briefly politicised, then proudly restored, “Concorde” ultimately came to stand for excellence, Europe, and entente as much as speed. In an age of incremental upgrades and risk aversion, Concorde reminds us what’s possible when design is driven by vision rather than precedent. It wasn’t just faster - it was confident, uncompromising, and future-facing. A timeless lesson: when design truly serves purpose, it never ages.

Positive feedback is vital to every project at Motel-but nothing means more than hearing from clients who value the way we work.

Calastone described their experience with us as collaborative, easy, and grounded in a clear understanding of their goals-praise that speaks to our client-first philosophy and the relationships we build.

After partnering on their brochure redesign and 2023 ESG report, Our Commitment to Sustainability, we were invited to develop the 2024 edition, Progressing with Purpose.

Their feedback highlighted the strength, clarity, and modernity of the creative work, along with a smooth, flexible process and attention to detail-qualities we’re proud to bring to each and every project.

Our recent work on the 2024 ESG Report for Calastone–the worlds largest global fund network, included a visual narrative to bring their key theme 'Progressing with Purpose' to life.

The design represents progress and flow, underpinned by the Calastone brand identity, expressed throughout the report. We used motion to further the message, creating a dynamic, immersive, and cohesive representation of the theme.

As the design partner for Calastone, the world's largest global funds network, we successfully developed their 2023 Sustainability Report.

This led to us being commissioned for the 2024 ESG Report, “Progressing with Purpose.” We elevated the 2024 report with a fresh visual language (inspired by progress and flow), introduced motion graphics for online engagement, and an interactive PDF for superior user experience. Partnering with Calastone, the world’s largest global funds network, we designed their first Sustainability Report in 2023, themed “Our commitment to sustainability.”

Following its success, we were commissioned to create the 2024 ESG Report, titled “Progressing with Purpose.” Building on the previous year’s foundation, we developed a fresh visual language with newly crafted imagery inspired by progress, flow, and positive projection. We also introduced motion graphics to bring static content to life and enhance online engagement together with an interactive PDF format to deliver an engaging, intuitive user experience.

We’re excited to welcome Leah Leong to Motel for a short internship. We were captivated by her portfolio at the UCA grad show and are eager to see the fresh ideas and creative energy she’ll bring to the studio.

Leah is a motion designer with a passion for visual storytelling, bold branding, and playful design. She recently completed her degree at UCA Canterbury, where she developed Loophaus—a dreamy, cinematic surfskate brand that beautifully merges branding, motion, and community spirit.

We’re looking forward to a vibrant and inspiring collaboration during her time with us.

The Motel team recently visited the University for the Creative Arts - UCA Degree Show in Canterbury and were impressed by the high standard of student work on display. After immersing ourselves in the diverse and innovative projects, we headed out for drinks where our conversations quickly turned to the talent we'd just witnessed. We narrowed it down to five BA (Hons) Visual Communication students who particularly stood out:

Ashley Sellen
Ashley captivated us with meticulous brand identity work, showcasing a clean, modern Swiss design approach that perfectly aligns with Motel Design’s aesthetic. The cohesive visuals, including great 3D-printed assets, reflected the theme of nutrition and clean eating. Ashley has already earned an industry recognition award for outstanding design and branding skills.

Jack Read
Congratulations to the double award-winning Jack Read, who received both the Outstanding Student Award and an Industry Recognition Award for Photography. His self-authored photobook, documenting England in early 2025, highlighted his exceptional eye with a gritty, contemporary vision of resistance expressed through a sleek yet grungy visual language.

Leah Leong
Leah, also an Industry Recognition Award recipient, thrilled us with her innovative Surfskate Brand Identity Loophaus. The brand identity was bold, memorable, and powered by confident colour choices and a meticulously executed design system.

Luke Nash
Luke’s work, which delved into the world of house music, struck a chord with us. This fun and original concept effectively used large-scale applications (e.g., on trucks) and a graphic element that cleverly captured the pulse of electronic music. You can reach Luke at [email protected]

Sagar Donga
Sagar earned an award for his brilliant mobile app design, Telo, a health platform for students demonstrating a keen understanding of user needs. We loved the bold patterns and vibrant colour combinations, seamlessly integrated across diverse assets.
Connect with Sagar on https://www.linkedin.com/in/sagardonga/

Our goal is to continue our summer internship to help a student develop their skills and bolster local talent. These graduates undoubtedly have a bright future ahead, and we can't wait to see their professional successes unfold.
