GCSE RESULTS DAY: WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Today may bring celebration, relief, disappointment—or a mixture of emotions.
Once the results have been opened, many young people are left with a much bigger question:
“What do I do next?”
Choosing between sixth form, college, an apprenticeship, technical education or employment can feel overwhelming—especially when you are still discovering who you are and what matters to you.
That is why we created the Career Confidence Collective.
It is a supportive place where young people can begin exploring and navigating what comes next.
We help them look beyond individual courses and job titles to understand the wider aspects of creating a future that works for them, including:
⭐ Recognising their strengths and abilities
⭐ Understanding their interests, values and motivations
⭐ Building confidence in communicating who they are
⭐ Exploring different education, training and career pathways
⭐ Developing the human skills needed for work and life
⭐ Making decisions without feeling pressured to have everything figured out
⭐ Creating realistic next steps and learning how to adapt as circumstances change
As part of this foundational journey, young people can also use the North★STAR Career Compass to explore four important areas:
⭐ Service — the contribution they would like to make
⭐ Talent — their strengths, abilities and potential
⭐ Authenticity — what engages them and allows them to be themselves
⭐ Reward — what they need from work and life to feel secure and fulfilled
GCSE grades provide useful information, but they cannot measure everything a young person has to offer.
They do not define their intelligence, character, creativity, potential or future.
The Career Confidence Collective gives young people a place to start—helping them move from:
“I don’t know what to do”
to:
“I understand myself better, I can see some possibilities, and I know what I can do next.”
