KW Top picks, served.

This week’s lineup is a proper mix of ‘let’s keep getting better at what we do’ and ‘let’s enjoy being alive’ whilst we do it!

Alex is bringing in two podcast picks this week…

First up, a work one (we kind of have to, right?) - ‘The biggest mistakes agencies make with revenue’ from The Agency Hackers. If you want to do a little bit of learning on this fine Friday, it’s a top rec from us!

And then a nutrition one, or in Alex’s words, ‘one about sna###xx’ - ‘7 snacks for a longer & healthier life with Professor Sarah Berry’, this one comes from ZOE: Science & Nutrition (no, not our Zoe). Snack chat, but make it science.

Tim’s top pick is a podcast, ‘Do This, NOT That: Marketing Tips with Jay Schwedelson’, ep 468. It’s all about what type of content is taking Instagram by storm in a very AI-dominated feed.

Amias has been on an alternative album rediscovery mission for our office tunes this week, his pick is ‘Mav’s version’ of Maverick Sabre’s Lonely Are The Brave - office approved!

Zo’s pick is a serious headphones-on, concentration-unlocked kind of situation, with ‘Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally’ by the one and only, Harry Styles. She’s been disco-ing occasionally, focusing frequently this week.

Jojo? She’s fresh off her holibobs with a cheeky cocktail choice for this one… her top pick is a cocktail called Midnight in Whitechapel - think cherries and pineapple and Mezcal… right up Jo’s street!

And last, but by no means least, Clare, our bookkeeper, is ironically going for a book pick: ‘Dare I Say It’ by Naomi Watts - borrowed from the library (extra green points)!

Now, over to you, what’s your top pick of the week?

Remote doesn’t mean disconnected.

Let’s be honest - sometimes flexibility is a real perk. Sometimes it isn’t. Some days, being all together in the office would just make things that little bit easier - and a lot more fun. But when life, logistics and time zones get involved, working remotely is what keeps things moving… and we’ve got pretty good at making it work.

With the team spread across places and time zones, “the office” shifts from day to day.

One day, Amias is dialling in from Lincoln Bishop University - blood test done - or taking up his unofficially reserved seat in Costa. The Business Hive is the perfect base between meetings or while the car service happens in the background.

Zoe and Emily find a slot for a proper catch-up, because good conversations aren’t tied to a postcode… And then there’s Australia Rob and Tim know that one well.… several time zones ahead, usually quiet while the rest of us are mid-flow. But between good comms, the right tools, and a team that knows how to keep each other in the loop, the work keeps moving forward regardless of who’s where.

Working from different desks and time zones just means we’ve got the team spirit covered around the clock 💪

So be honest… where’s the most unexpected place you’ve ever taken a work call from? 👀

A quick KW Feb round-up before March fully takes over with its own agenda - hopefully featuring lots of nodding daffodils and sunshine!

February was a month of full-steam-ahead momentum. While Alex headed down to Port of Lancaster for a good ol’ catch-up, Jo helped out at the very first 2-4 Volunteer event after lots of planning, and the team flew the KW flag at the Lincolnshire Farming Conference, as Jo and Zo met up with Sea2Soil for some industry insights and snuck in a quick health check with Lincolnshire Rural Support Network.

We even whipped up a blog for this one so you can read more about the day (and how it was) over on our website.

Closer to home, there were personal wins a-plenty with Alex and Lou smashing Snake Lane 10-miler and drum roll please… Rob is out of a sling! For how long? Who knows…

All in all, a month of good people, good progress, and good work - just how we like it.

We can confirm we’re starting the new month with a fair bit of ‘how on earth is it March already?’ In other (less) exciting news, Em’s squashed potato saga continues. Although who knew jacket potato topping choices could be so controversial!

What are the KW team’s top picks for this week? Well… strap in, here’s what’s been keeping the KW team entertained, motivated and fuelled this week...

Curly's Run at Quibell Park - our head honcho’s top pick. Getting in the miles on the track, all for free, and in the name of getting people moving… with the added bonus of cake.

Podcast Picks - Another selection from Mr Podcast himself… our Tim, a top choice for learning all about how organisations can onboard AI.

Movie Magic - Amias’ pick this week is ‘Death Wish’ (the Bruce Willis movie). Now, Amias tends to stick with what he knows, but apparently, this one really packed the action punch.

TV Choices - A choice that comes from down under, from Rob, ‘The Pitt’ has been whizzed through in a fortnight, although it hasn’t quite landed in the UK yet (Rob claims this is one of the many bonuses of being in the land of Aus… as if he needed another one on top of the endless sunshine).

Essential Tech - Lou’s selection, in her exact words, is her ‘cheap Bluetooth headphones’ (they have a habit of disappearing). From running to cleaning silos and working at the bench, she’d very much go stir-crazy without a podcast or a good tune ringing in her ears.

Views for Days - Not many words needed for Jo’s top pick, but living on the edge of The Wolds really does have its benefits. We’re already looking forward to the Golden Hour photos in the summer - summer camp out, anyone?

Sip of the Week - We’re not too sure about this one, but Zo’s top pick is Vimto (she specified the sugar-free one… for health purposes?). Keeping her constantly fuelled throughout the day, we’re on the fence. Vimto is a northern thing, right?

And last but by no means least, an agency top pick - the team all voted for it - was the Systematic and oodle open day, really showcasing the magic of our little (or not so little) creative corner, and of course powered by The Choowee Cookie Company all day!

Now, off the bat, you wouldn’t necessarily put rural Lincolnshire and marketing powerhouses in the same sentence, but that’s precisely the point! Here, in our creative corner of Caistor, we set out to prove that marketing (the ‘good for the planet’ kind) can happen anywhere. And we aren’t the only ones…

Our next door neighbours, Systematic are hosting an open day on Thursday, 26th Feb, 11am - 3pm, and, (yep), we’ll be here too!

Find out more about what these systemoodlers are up to, and while you’re here, pop your head in our office too! Ah, and, The Choowee Cookie Company will be here too, so if we didn’t convince you, may be the thought of a cuppa and a sweet treat will tempt you…

We’ve even got a blog, all about our home down in the creative corner of Caistor, have a gander - https://www.knaptonwright.co.uk/insights/the-creative-corner-of-caistor/

Here at KW, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword we use in campaigns - it’s something we actively build into how we work every day. 🌍✨

That’s why we’ve chosen to use smol cleaning products across our workspace. From dishwasher tablets to everyday essentials, they help us reduce waste, cut down on harsh chemicals, and make more responsible choices as a business. Because we believe that looking after the planet isn’t about one big gesture - it’s about little ones that add up over time… even the smollest details make a difference 💚

Say Hello to our podcast pick of the week…

We’re big fans of the ol’ podcast (some members of the team more than others). And while the recs we share with each other tend to be focused on marketing, there is the odd curveball that is thrown into the mix.

So, we thought - why keep these little gems to ourselves? This week, our top pick of this week, a recommendation that comes all the way from down under, from Mr Tim Pritchard, drum roll please…

The Romesh Ranganathan Show - Jack Thorne: Adolescence, Stephen Graham, and Anxiety

Now, off the bat, it may not seem all that relevant to marketing, but this episode hits on something many of us probably know a little too well: performance anxiety and imposter syndrome. Especially these days with the rise of AI, constant change, and the need to continuously ‘level up’, the pressure can very much feel endless. It’s a good listen and calls into question just how sustainable the constant oneupmanship to compete actually is (spoiler, it’s not).

And while we’re at it, we thought, why not share a few of our other faves from this week, from music that kept us in the zone, to the little things that make us productive and perhaps a questionable choice or two.

Swipe for some KW FUN…

After 23628 days, that is a wrap on January! 🎬 🎉

Now that the longest month of the year is officially over, it’s time to catch a breath and hop on the LinkedIn bandwagon for a little recap.

After Rob’s surprise return from the land down under in December, we’ve had almost seven weeks of firmly grabbing every opportunity to hijack his geek brain (while he missed no opportunity to talk about how cold it is in the UK). But, more importantly, it gave us the time we needed to crack on with filming a very special episode of KnapChat… keep your eyes peeled!

We also teamed up with Hebb&Griff to document the power of collaboration, with Humberside Fire & Rescue Service and Balance Graphic Design.

Rob and Alex took a trip to Liverpool to film a showcase video for Seacon, alongside Cookie Cut Media.

And from Liverpool to Caistor, Jo and Zo popped up to 2-4 Market Place to see how things are progressing - spoiler alert, it’s shaping up nicely for opening in summer/autumn - and prepped for the project’s first volunteer group event.

January also brought some fab, new projects to get stuck into, as well as new phases of work rolling out for some of our faves - The Choowee Cookie Company sweetened the deal with some new cookie creations to keep us fuelled for at least a month (let’s be honest, a week in this office). 🍪

Sadly, all good things must come to an end - no, we don’t mean January, January can get in the bin. But we said farewell to Rob (again!), who landed safe and sound, back in the land of kangaroos and koalas. 🇦🇺 🐨 🦘

Cameras rolling, ideas flying … oooo ahhhhhh, that familiar buzz when strategy meets ex*****on.

This week was all about capturing what actually happens - the conversations, the pivots and some of those moments that don’t make the final cut, but make the biggest difference to the evolution of a project.

There’s something powerful about slowing down to document the process. Brand stories taking shape, details being refined, and a few surprises we can’t wait to share 👀

If you’ve ever wondered what goes into building work that actually works … it’s fab clients like Humberside Fire & Rescue Service, and top dog collaborators like the beards Hebb&Griff and Balance Graphic Design, and let’s not forget the return of Robert Plant (obviously we actually mean Rob who’s back from down under but also not forgetting Robert Plant the plant.)

Watch this space, this is just the beginning… 👀 🎬

We’ve been out and about, moving, shaking, and making things happen… just not putting them on LinkedIn… oops.

So buckle up - this is what getting out and about really looks like at KW.

At the back end of last week, Head Honch, Alex, headed down to Norwich to attend the Mayor’s ‘At Home’ Reception. A room full of local dignitaries, councillors and fellow mayors - all brought together to recognise and thank those supporting the Mayor of the Mayor, the brilliant Andy Bullen.

Then Friday morning, it was straight into meetings with Compass Media Group, Andy and Jack from Cookie Cut Media, talking all things collaboration, growth and what’s coming next. Diving deep into the maritime and ports sector - a space we’re proudly committed to supporting as part of KW’s sustainability focus. Cue real conversations about where the industry is heading, what it needs next, and how we can help reflect the efforts being made to showcase the sector in a more sustainable light ⚓

A bit of KW in motion!

And just like that…

There has been a meeting sitting in the calendar for a while now - titled something serious like “Important AI Update.” So naturally, we all turned up ready to have our minds blown by some new tech revelation. After getting that all important coffee of course.

The call starts. Everyone sits, waiting.

And then… the host’s camera doesn’t work.

We’re all thinking, “Classic. Big AI update and the guy leading it can’t get his camera sorted.” So we’re all sitting there, occasional eye roll, preparing to spend the next 30 minutes staring at a blank screen. Minutes pass. Confusion rises.

And then suddenly - BOOM.

The door bursts open! An AI expert. In the flesh!

ROB. IS. BACK. FROM. AUSTRALIA.

Surprise!!!Turns out there was an update - just not a technological one. More like: “GOTCHA, I’m back and the camera wasn’t broken at all… you fools.”

We genuinely couldn’t believe it. The greatest tech-glitch fake-out of the year - take THAT, AI.

Christmas has officially come early at Knapton Wright, and we’re still recovering from the shock.

Welcome back, Rob - you comedy genius. 🎄😂✈
