Base 8 have worked with some enormous names over the years, but they don’t come much bigger than the University of Cambridge. Earlier this year, we were asked by the university to support them with the launch of some internal support materials on the subject of Financial Management. Base 8 has previously developed some e-learning for the University of Nottingham on the same subject so it was with great pride that we were asked to step in and support the University of Cambridge as well. It has been fantastic to work once again with Sally Measures, who we previously supported when she worked at Arm. Thanks for the opportunity to work with you and such a prestigious organisation.

We love a challenge at Base 8 so when Preos approached us to design up some graduate giveaway boxes that they wanted printing, we were up for the challenge. In the past, we have been asked to design some weird and wonderful things from typical stationery items such as pens and booklets to a wide range of event stands and we have even been asked to design the branding for a locomotive engine so we were well up for this latest task. The boxes were being used at a graduate fair to store multiple giveaways. Here’s the end product which went down a storm!

Nadia’s Lashes recently approached us to help design up a flyer to help promote her business. Nadia specialises in Volume Lashes, Russian Lashes, Hybrid Lashes and Classic Lashes as well as helping customers with a range of other services including Eyebrow Wax & Tint, Brow Lamination, Dermaplaning, Microneedling and Luxury Facials. Nadia loved the design and quickly set about printing and distributing the flyers. We are thrilled that within 24 hours of sending out the first batch of flyers, she has already gained 2 new clients! The flyers proved such a success that we have just created 2 more as her Christmas bookings start to fill up. Nadia provides a high-end product and a fantastic service to her clients, mainly in and around the Nottinghamshire area. Good luck Nadia. Wishing you every success for your business venture.

Last week, we were very proud to have supported the incredible business World After Sport (WAS) with graphic designs services for a range of assets to support their hugely successful event “World Cup Winning Tigers”. We helped to produce event banners, an awards brochure, drinks labels and event stands for what turned out to be a memorable occasion for all who attended.

Guests were treated to a 3-course dinner, Q&A and auction, whilst meeting 7 of England’s Rugby World Cup Winning team from 2003. Nearly 400 people attended the event which was organised by World After Sport MD, Martin Underwood. WAS helps professional athletes, coaches and officials plan, prepare and successfully transition for when their participating days are over. WAS have now supported a wide range of sports men and women across multiple disciplines and being sports fans ourselves here at Base 8, it was a delight to offer our services to Martin and his team. Congratulations on a hugely successful night.

In 2020, we were really pleased to have been asked by Sophie McGrath to work with her on the design and build of her website – Engagement Works. Sophie has teamed up with Base 8 on a number of projects over the past 3 years including working with amazing brands such as Warner Music Group, Clearscore and Railpen so it is a real pleasure to have worked with her on the re-design of the website. Sophie and Engagement-Works focus on developing change making leaders, providing consulting, leadership, and coaching services. Sophie has an amazing track record for delivering exceptional results and we’d like to wish her all the very best with the re-launch of the website.

It’s always doubly pleasing when you get to work with a new client as a result of an introduction from an existing satisfied customer who is willing to recommend you, so it has been great to work with Tim Smith from Talent Invest Pro, on the development of his new logo and design of his PowerPoint slide templates. Working with Tim, we came up with a scattergun of potential logo options before narrowing this down to the one he has now chosen. We then set about coming up with a modern and non-corporate PowerPoint template that can be used for pitching, marketing and presenting. It’s been great to work with you Tim and thanks so much Sophie for the introduction.

After nearly 8 years as our Sales Director, Mike Hutton has taken the decision to retire from work. Mike has been integral to the success of Base 8 since we set the company up in 2016 and he is rightly proud of what our team has achieved in that time. We’ve gone from a new business start-up to working with just under 200 different clients, ranging from start-up businesses, to SMEs and multi-national corporates. With the business experiencing consistent growth year on year, and 2023 set to be one of our strongest years yet, Mike has decided it’s a great time to step back.

Whilst we are sad to see Mike leave, we are delighted to announce that Lee Jakubik will succeed Mike, in the role of Commercial Director. Lee has been an integral part of Base 8 since May 2021, managing a wide range of clients. We have received such fantastic feedback directly from a number of customers, regarding Lee’s customer service centricity so it was an easy decision to offer Lee the opportunity to step into Mike’s shoes. Lee has previously worked at Hillary’s Blinds, Center Parcs Group and NTG Consultants and brings a wealth of knowledge to the role. Lee will work with Mike until the end of the year, to ensure a seamless handover of all the projects we are currently working on so you won’t see an interruption to the service you have been used to receiving from us.

We have just had the pleasure of working once again with Sarah James on the design of a two-page leaflet and website for her new venture, Innovo HR. Sarah came up with the fantastic idea of providing HR services for small businesses who either don’t have the expertise in-house or perhaps aren’t big enough to have an HR function in their early months of trading.

In the early days of building a business and during growth, many organisations can easily lose focus on the people component as the need to deliver intensifies. This usually results in a set of growing pains including founders lacking HR know-how and feeling vulnerable raising this as an area for their own development or key people getting bogged down working on the wrong things because responsibilities have not been delegated. In the most serious cases, it can involve litigation against the company because the HR expertise just doesn’t exist. There’s never been a more important time to therefore have HR policies and procedures watertight so Sarah is providing small businesses with the fantastic support they need at an affordable price. Good luck Sarah with this terrific initiative.

Last week, we received an SOS from a client who we’d been talking to about building a website. Due to the awful situation unfolding in Israel, the need to have the ‘Oh Brown Bear’ website up and running urgently, became a top priority. Oh Brown Bear had set up a fund raising initiative selling boxes of cookies, with all proceeds being donated to Magen David Adom, whose services have been pushed to unprecedented levels in the past few weeks. We worked through the night to ensure that the site was up and running in record speed, to enable the fund raising to take place and help play a small part in the raising of over £6000 for the charity. Oh Brown Bear are continuing the initiative so that any customers who are unable to collect the cookies, have the alternative of gifting them for delivery to Israel and distributed to soldiers on the front line, by the Swords of Iron Mission, in their upcoming shipment flying out of the UK. Any boxes of cookies that miss the shipment date will be distributed to Jewish families in need across the UK by GIFT. Well done to everyone at Oh Brown Bear on such a successful initiative.

Over the years it has been a real honour for Base 8 to work with some huge brand names such as Boots, Nationwide, Wilko, Bank of Ireland, British Gas and Maersk to name just a few and over the last 6 months, we’ve been working with another huge name to develop an app to support their culture transformation – Kraft Heinz. Working with retail intelligence specialists Clear Box Retail, we have just launched an application that enables colleagues across Kraft Heinz to temperature check their culture on a frequent basis. It has been great to once again work with the amazing team at Clear Box and a true privilege to work with the Kraft Heinz team in the USA.
