I was chatting to another business owner recently and we both said the same thing: running the business is one job and talking about the business online is another😂

And I think that’s why so many people get stuck with marketing.

Not because they “don’t care enough” or “aren’t consistent enough”… but because they’re already busy actually doing the thing their business exists for.

A florist is preparing flowers, a cafe owner is on their feet all day, a therapist is listening to their clients, a builder is hands-on on site…

Then they get home and suddenly feel like they should also become a full-time content creator, video editor and social media manager and wish they’d ‘taken more content’ today🙃

I love marketing, obviously. But I also think business owners deserve a bit more grace around it all sometimes.

Anyway. That’s today’s cuppa & natter☕️

How’s everyone feeling about social media lately? Love it? Hate it? Somewhere in the middle? I would absolutely LOVE to know your thoughts!!

Thought it was about time you met the team behind The Lilac Creative…👋🏻

A highly skilled operation consisting of:
☕️ one woman running on caffeine and creative ideas
🐾 one cat who believes she owns the company
🐈‍⬛ one cat whose main contribution is emotional support and snack supervision

Jokes aside, I think it’s important to show the person behind the business too. Because when you work with me, you’re not getting some huge agency where you’re passed between departments and forgotten about halfway through a project.

It’s literally just me.
Showing up for your business.
Talking through ideas.
Helping you stop overthinking your content.
Popping up with a camera for behind-the-scenes filming (although I do typically use my iPhone).
Voice noting you back when your brain is full at 9pm.

The cosy, chaotic little creative corner of the internet💜

So if you’ve been quietly following along and thinking “I should probably message her”… this is your sign x

I don’t think I realised at the time how much those 5 years would shape the way I run my business now🫶🏻

Working for a children’s charity meant every day looked different. One minute I’d be chatting with young people, the next helping volunteers, supporting the reception desk, organising projects or jumping into campaign support because an extra pair of hands was needed.

You learn very quickly how to communicate with people properly in environments like that.

You learn that confidence looks different on everyone. That some people need structure, some need reassurance and some just need someone to sit beside them and say “right, let’s figure this out together.”

That’s probably why I work the way I do now✨

Yes, I love strategy and content planning. But my favourite part of this business will always be supporting the person behind it all.

The voice notes.
The coffee shop chats.
The “I have 700 ideas and no clue where to start” moments.

Because business owners don’t need someone barking marketing jargon at them. They need support that actually fits around real life and a real business.

And truthfully, I think that’s what makes me good at what I do.

If you’ve been looking for a creative right-hand who’ll genuinely care about your business, my DM’s are always open💜

I think one of the biggest misconceptions around marketing is that it only “matters” once a business reaches a certain size.

But the more I look around, the more I notice the opposite👀

The businesses growing well are usually the ones making time to stay visible, build trust and remind people they exist - even when they’re already successful.

Not in a pushy “buy from me right now” way (this isn’t really my vibe).

More in a:
“Oh yeah, I always see them around.”
“I love how they explain things.”
“They seem lovely.”
“They clearly know what they’re talking about.”
kind of way.

And I think that’s especially important for small businesses because people aren’t just buying the product or service anymore. They’re buying into you too.

✨ Your energy.
✨ Your story.
✨ Your way of doing things.

That’s why I love founder content and behind-the-scenes marketing so much. It gives people something real to connect with.

And if your brain is currently full of 700 business thoughts, half-finished ideas and “I know I should post more but I don’t know where to start” energy… you’re very much the kind of person I work with☕️

Lilac Hour and Empower Hour are there for exactly that.

No pretending to have it all figured out. Just a cuppa and a chat with someone who truly cares about you and your business (that person is me btw😉).

Pop me a DM, I’d love to work with you🫶🏻

This post is dedicated to my incredibly lovely bookkeeper - Bee’s Bookkeeping Solutions 🐝

You’re obviously my friend first and bookkeeper second, but in both ways I’d be lost without you!

Finance is always something that’s made me nervous. But you listen to my rambles & random questions and help me feel calm & confident in what to do. I think we could literally natter forever!

Things aren’t easy right now, but your support to keep pushing myself and chasing my dreams is something that I will always be grateful for🫶🏻

If you’re feeling lost with your finances, are dreading completing your self assessment or just don’t know how to start with any of it - Beth is absolutely you gal💜

I think there’s a really awkward stage of business that nobody talks about enough👀

You’ve grown past the “doing this for fun” stage.

People are interested, opportunities are happening and your business matters to you deeply.

But you’re not quite at the stage where hiring employees feels realistic yet.

So instead, you carry everything yourself. And after a while, even the things you used to enjoy start feeling heavy and like a chore.

That’s why I’ve realised the support I offer goes far beyond “social media help”.

Yes, I can create strategies, content plans and help you structure your marketing in a way that actually makes sense for your business.

But the bit I love most is being in someone’s corner.

The voice note before a launch.
The content day with coffee and pastries.
The “can I just quickly ask your opinion on this?”
The post-event debrief.
The moments where someone visibly relaxes because they don’t feel like they have to hold everything alone anymore.

That’s the kind of business support I want to be known for!

If that sounds like the sort of support you’ve been craving lately, my Lilac Hour, Empower Hour and monthly consulting sessions are always open💜

A lot of the best content doesn’t come from perfectly planned trends or spending 3 hours trying to think of a caption.

It comes from real moments. The behind-the-scenes bits, the conversations, the way you actually work day-to-day.

That’s why I’ve started offering content support alongside my strategy and consulting work for local businesses. Think:
- getting footage of you in action
- capturing the little moments people don’t usually see
- helping with talking videos when you don’t want to do them alone
- “meet the team” content that actually feels natural
- building a bank of content so you’re not constantly scrambling for something to post

Most business owners already have good content sitting right in front of them. They just need someone there to spot it and help bring it together.

If that sounds like you, pop me a message - I’d love to chat🥰

And yes, the backpack is usually heavier than it needs to be and is slightly broken…😂

There’s something about getting out of the house that just shifts things✨

New surroundings, different conversations in the background, noticing little details you’d usually walk past… it all adds up. Half of my content ideas come from moments like this, not from sitting at my desk (aka my dining table) trying to force it.

It’s also why I love getting out into my clients’ spaces when I can. Seeing your business properly, picking up on the little things, capturing bits of real life that actually feel like you - it makes everything flow so much easier.

If your content feels a bit stuck or samey, it might not be a creativity issue. You might just need a change of scene (or an extra pair of eyes).

Either way, I’ll be here with a coffee☕️💜

If you’ve been telling yourself you’ll “rest after this week”… consider this your sign to bring that forward🙌🏻

Bank holiday weekends don’t come around that often, and you don’t need to earn the right to switch off. Running a business already asks a lot of you. Mentally, creatively, emotionally. If you keep pushing through when you’re tired, everything starts to feel heavier than it needs to.

I say this as someone who looks at social media and marketing all day, every day. It’s very easy for me to slip into “just one more thing” mode. One more tweak. One more idea. One more post.

But the reality is, us business owners aren’t just doing marketing. You’re running the whole thing. The client work, the admin, the behind-the-scenes bits no one sees. So when your content starts to feel harder, slower, more forced… it’s usually not a strategy problem. It’s a capacity one.

Taking a proper break gives you your headspace back. Ideas land quicker, decisions feel clearer, and you come back with more energy for the parts of your business that actually matter.

If you follow my other little corner of the internet, , you’ll know I’m always talking about looking after yourself in ways that actually fit your life. This is one of them.

So if you needed permission to log off, close the laptop, and enjoy your weekend properly… here it is.

And when you come back, if your marketing still feels like something you have to squeeze in around everything else, that’s exactly where I can support you. Not by piling more on, but by helping you find a way of doing it that actually works with your business (and your life).

Have a lovely weekend💜

You don’t need more ideas. If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably got too many😂

They pop up when you’re making a coffee, doing the nursery run, halfway through a conversation. You tell yourself you’ll come back to them… and then they disappear or sit in a notes app you never open again (guilty).

That’s usually the point where people think they’re the problem.

They’re not “consistent enough”, not “disciplined enough”, not “good” at social media.

But most of the time, it’s not that.

You’re running a business (and a life). Your attention is everywhere. Content becomes the thing you squeeze in around everything else, so it stays in your head instead of going anywhere useful.

When you’ve got something to catch those ideas, and a way to actually turn them into content that makes sense for your business, everything feels a lot lighter.

You’re not starting from scratch every time. You’re not second guessing every post. You’re not relying on “when you feel like it”.

That’s the shift I focus on with clients😇

Not more content, not louder content - just something that actually works for you.

If your head feels full but your socials don’t reflect it, you don’t need to figure it out on your own.

My website’s linked, or just drop me a message and we’ll have a proper chat about it💜

This might feel like a slightly unexpected one.

But it’s actually an industry I find really interesting and one I did consider working in at one point🖤

Not everything has to be glitz, trends and perfectly curated feeds. Some businesses require a different kind of approach. More thought, more care and more understanding of the people you’re speaking to.

And funeral directors are a perfect example of that.

More and more people are turning to social media to research local businesses, read reviews, and get a feel for who they’re trusting in important moments. That doesn’t stop for “non-glamorous” industries - it just looks different.

A gentle presence, clear & helpful information, and a sense of reassurance before someone even picks up the phone.

That’s what content can do when it’s done thoughtfully.

I love working with businesses that need a bit more depth in their marketing. The ones where it’s not about being loud, it’s about being right.

If you’re a funeral director, or any kind of people-first, service-based business, and you want your content to feel more considered and aligned with what you do - I’d love to help.

I can create a personalised strategy and content plan based on your business, your audience and how you actually want to show up. Or you can have a look around my website to get a feel for how else I work.

Either way, my inbox is always open if you want to chat💜
