Great night at the BNI Durham, Teesside & North Yorkshire Awards Gala with our BNI Premier - Business Referral Organisation in Teesside - North East tribe.

A big thanks to Gill Sawdon for organising a great evening and our MD would like to thank everyone for all the awards he received. They weren't for him though but for the brilliant Andrea Clarke of Enterprise Made Simple who couldn't be there - he still took all the credit though.

We only interviewed candidates who came through LinkedIn and the Haystack app, even though there did seem to be a couple of potential good candidates via tech recruitment agencies. But why pay around £5k when you don't need to.

My advice to any techies looking for a new role - look at LinkedIn and sign up to Haystack.

It's my normal Wednesday morning at BNI Durham, Teesside & North Yorkshire this morning with my tribe at BNI Premier.

Not quite normal as at short notice, due to an illness of one of our members, I'm stepping in to do the feature presentation on Tad Web Solutions Limited.

We're really busy (and hopefully by the end of today will have agreed a new team member to ease that a bit) so I've made the decision to not prepare a presentation, no slides, no mini website, etc.

I'm just going to explain why we're passionate about what we do, what we achieve for our customers, who our target market is, what our philosophy is and what it means for our team, and the BHAG.

Could go well, could go badly - but it will be honest and from the heart.

Today we will be setting up a couple of people for final interviews for the dev role we advertised. It's been an interesting process.

The candidates we will offer interview to came via LinkedIn and Haystack. We were also contacted by several recruitment agencies with some good candidates we haven't spoken to. The agency process went something like this:

Agency A: we have a candidate who is a good fit, our recruitment fee is 30% of salary if you offer the job.

Agency B: we have a candidate who is a good fit, our recruitment fee is 25% of salary if you offer the job. So we speak to Agency A

Agency A: we will alter our fee to 20% of salary if you offer the job. So we speak to Agency B ...

Agency B: we will alter our fee to 15% of salary if you offer the job....

I did speak to someone I know at a local recruitment agency (SO Resources) who were transparent and have a reasonable fee, so if neither interviewee works out we'll be in touch.
