Last night, Simon Ram, CEO of MKC TV, and his daughter Liliana (9), were delighted to attend the press night of The Karate Kid – The Musical at Milton Keynes Theatre, kindly invited by Petra Kereem, Communications Manager at Milton Keynes Theatre.
Milton Keynes Theatre
This exciting stage adaptation of the iconic 1984 film stays true to the heart of the original while bringing it to life with an outstanding cast, spectacular choreography, seamless scene transitions, and a completely original musical score.
Adrian Pang was exceptional as Mr. Miyagi, capturing the character's wisdom and warmth perfectly. Sharon Sexton delivered a touching performance as Lucille LaRusso, while Gino Ochello impressed as Daniel LaRusso. Elena Breschi stepped into the role of Ali Mills superbly, filling in for Abigail Amin and reminding audiences of the much-loved character from the film. Joe Simmons was excellent as Johnny Lawrence, Matt Mills was perfectly cast as John Kreese, and the entire company gave first-class performances throughout.
One of my personal highlights was Sharon Sexton's powerful rendition of "If I Could Take The Pain Away." It was beautifully performed, emotionally moving, and my standout song of the evening.
The choreography, staging, lighting, and transitions were flawless, making for a captivating production from start to finish. Liliana and I thoroughly enjoyed the show and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic night at the theatre.
Whether you're a lifelong fan of The Karate Kid or discovering the story for the first time, this musical delivers nostalgia, heart, humour, and inspiration in equal measure.
