Our work with Bernicia who are helping people into employment in fun and effective ways. I got my brows done and lashes tinted after I filmed this. I’m looking lush, man. X

Here’s another example of how wonderful humans can be when they support each other when they’re most vulnerable.

I was asked recently by Railway Medical Group to do some drone filming for an event on Blyth Beach. They run a twice-weekly Grief Group and they were holding a special event where the staff and people from the group came together to chat, have a coffee, paint pebbles in commemoration of loved ones, and told stories, sang songs, and created a large heart in the sand using the pebbles.

Once I realised the nature of the event I was drawn to the human connection and stories that could be told, so we decided that rather than just take drone shots, we’d make a short film of how the afternoon unfolded to raise awareness of the group. I joined them on the beach and listened to stories about their loved ones, told by people who were unafraid of their emotions because they were together. We’ve all lost someone very dear to us, and sharing our memories and just being there for each other was beautiful.

There was music too - and the group sang a handful of songs, some familiar, some new, from word sheets. And something really special happened on the beach in Blyth.

The event promised a gentle gathering of connection, remembrance and hope.

“Together we honour our stories. Together we fold strength in the waves. You are held, you are seen, you matter. Grief comes in waves. So does hope. You don’t have to navigate it alone.”

People felt that very deeply in this group, and it was a privilege to be there to see it, and to make this film so that others can find that hope for themselves.

It’s the start of Carers Week in the UK, and I want to give a special shout out to carers and the organisations who work to support them.

Last year I had the privilege of making a short film of South Tyneside Young Carers’ participation in the South Tyneside Festival and I honestly had no idea that some carers are themselves children. Thanks to Sharon Bailey for getting me involved.

South Tyneside Young Carers has been delivering support to young carers and their families for over 15 years, with the aim of improving their quality of life and reducing the risk of isolation.

They passionately believe that every young carer should be able to enjoy their childhood and have a supportive environment in which they can retreat from the pressures they often face.

So whatever your age, if you’re a carer or work for an organisation that supports carers, we want to show our heartfelt appreciation. Thank you!!

I’m off to The Toon to treat myself to a bit of catching up with friends and live music in the Ouseburn for the Marrapalooza Festival after a full-on week of production.

Yesterday particularly was non-stop but lots of fun. First I was working with the wonderful Accelerator Coaching Ltd where I was filming Teresa Peters and Laura Barker delivering some of their leadership coaching to the lovely people at Troo. Interviewing the staff who’d been on their course was inspiring - Troo really value their team and it’s shows. Happy people working with a company that invests in their success and quality of life!

Then in the evening I was helping out on a photography shoot and had a long overdue catch up with friend and fellow filmmaker / photographer Krzysztof Furgala. Lots of chat about Canon lenses and cameras, as you can imagine. Some exciting new kit coming soon from DJI which may well change our lives - so I can’t wait for that!

But today is all about unwinding and catching up with some mates at The Cumberland Arms and other places nearby. Going to catch some of Hen Ogledd’s 8 hour set! A pint or two may be involved - who knows!

It gets me every time! The one thing that is sure to impress me is kindness.

I’ve worked with several incredible organisations and individuals this week, filming stories of support, selflessness and kindness.

A large corporate company that’s putting something back into the community with free employability training that not only gives skills, but confidence and self worth.

A medical group who are running drop-in sessions for grief support, helping people who have lost love ones to connect and move forward, knowing they are seen, held, and valued.

An organisation that helps volunteers and charities get everything they need to run effectiveky and make a huge difference in their communities.

These stories move me far more that ones about increased profit, winning new clients or business success. They’re about what makes us better as people, showing each other that we care and that we are here to give our time to make the world a nicer place.

This week more than most, as we look back on Volunteer Week, it’s easier to see the good in people. It’s wonderful, really. I hope you’ve been inspired too!

It's Volunteers' Week and today I've been doing some volunteering myself - for NCVA Northumberland Community and Voluntary Action.

NCVA provides expert guidance and advice, based on experience, to help people set up, run and develop community or voluntary groups or charities. The work they do is incredibly valuable, and they have helped countless organisations set up and succeed.

I've been filming with Caroline Rogan, their CEO, finding out more about what they do, who they do it for, and why they're such a vital community support service. It's inspiring to hear the stories of the hundreds of organisations and individuals they've helped over the last 40 years.

It's also been so interesting to film some of their touring Mind The Gap sessions in the region recently which I've posted about recently. The work NCVA does is just amazing and I hope that our short film helps get their message out there to those who need to hear it.

I can finally talk about it! Today was the official press launch of a feature film that I’ll be shooting later this year. I’ve been brought in as cinematographer on the full length film version of a wonderful play written by and starring Alison Stanley and Leah Bell.

Set entirely in the still, sterile space of an oncology waiting room, “Tits Up” is a raw and honest portrayal of a group of women grappling with the realities of a breast cancer diagnosis.

The film unfolds in real time, inviting the audience to sit beside the characters as they wait, reflect, and reveal their stories. It’s intimate and deeply human, and has an incredible cast including Alison Stanley, Leah Bell, Crissy Rock, Cheryl Ferguson, Katie Potts and special guest star Tommy Cannon.

I’ll be working alongside director Craig Conway to bring this incredibly moving and uproariously funny story to life.

I can’t wait - we’re currently pre-production and we shoot in August. The audience reaction to the play has been so overwhelming, and we’re all very excited to share this film with you!

I’m also proud that this production will continue to raise awareness of breast cancer, and help people talk about and share their own experiences. More info soon!

Another morning filming with Wansbeck Valley Foodbank - this time with two of their community donation teams at ASDA. If there’s one thing that’s guaranteed to make me emotional it’s kindness. So many donations, such generosity, so many stories of compassion. It’s a wonderful thing to witness. I’m really looking forward to bringing all of this together over the coming weeks.

I’m talking to a lot of real life HEROES at the moment. That’s because next month it’s the return of the Heroes of Retail Risk Awards in Lindon. I’ve been commissioned once more to create the 9 winners films.

With the assistance of my producer Mark Miller we’re conducting interviews with the winners and their nominators from throughout the UK to help them tell their stories of everyday heroism.

The security guard who bravely saves the day. The cashier who recognises a victim of abuse and intervenes. The team of fund raisers working towards a charitable goal. These are the sorts of unsung heroes that The Heroes of Retail Risk Awards recognises.

It’s inspiring to hear the stories from people who don’t consider themselves to be heroes. But they’re changing, and often saving lives. Their stories of kindness, resilience, heroism and bravery are awe inspiring and these are some of the stories I most love sharing in my films.

The Heroes of Retail Risk Awards will take place on 18th June 2026, following Retail Risk London at the Novotel Hammersmith West, London. Taking its cue from The Pride of Britain Awards, this wonderful event, presented by Siân Jones, shines a spotlight on selfless actions, bravery and acts of kindness in our industry.
