Venturefest North East 2016 is the region's innovation conference. Having grown from 283 people at its launch in 2013, this year is set to be the biggest yet with an expected attendance in excess of 700. Last year was brilliant. This year should be better still. Check out the programme.

Organised by Simon Green and team, Venturefest North East is supported by Innovate UK, Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN), North East Local Enterprise Partnership and North East Business and Innovation Centre - BIC - and other partners, including Marketwise Strategies.

For the first time, we're bringing FinanceCamp to VentureFest. FinanceCamp is open to all North East businesses, helping them to understand their investment needs, identify suitable sources of finance and connect them with investors.

Dr John Gibson, one of our senior researchers, attended one in a series of public lectures on the “Idea of Higher Education”, put on by Newcastle College and The Lit & Phil: http://www.ncl-coll.ac.uk/higher-education/public-lecture-series.

Professor Ron Barnett, Emeritus Professor of Higher Education at the UCL Institute of Education, spoke on ‘The Coming of the Ecological University’. It was a fascinating lecture in which Professor Barnett discussed some intriguing blue-sky thinking about 21st century Higher Education and what it could and should look like. For more information on Professor Barnett's ideas about the ecological university, visit http://www.ronaldbarnett.co.uk/recenttalks.php

Newcastle College is once again working in partnership with the Lit & Phil to deliver a series of free public lectures.

Within its role as the UK’s National Standards Body (NSB), BSI had tended to work more with large organisations than with SMEs, when developing British, European and international standards. Since 2013, however, BSI has been exploring ways in which to help SMEs become more profitable, innovative and competitive. To better understand the SME ‘landscape’ in the UK, BSI commissioned Marketwise Strategies to carry out macro-level analysis of the UK SME population, followed by research among SMEs in six sectors (Aerospace, Automotives, Construction, Food, Healthcare and ICT).

A case study, summarising the project, is available here: http://www.marketwisestrategies.com/case-studies/bsi-research-among-smes/

Research among SMEs; how to encourage and facilitate access to standards and standards development. Research for BSI. A Marketwise Strategies case study.
