Custom labels are one of the quickest ways to take control of Shopping performance.

They can also turn into a mess fast.

We’ve just shared a lesson on what custom labels are and how to use them with intent, not as a dumping ground.

We cover:
⭐️ what Google does (and doesn’t) do with custom labels
⭐️ strategic vs tactical labels
⭐️ simple frameworks that actually work: sale, inventory, margin, performance, pricing band
⭐️ using labels to protect winners, manage underperformers, and control what gets to scale

Key idea: standard attributes describe what a product is. Custom labels describe how you want to treat it.

Feed attributes in Google Shopping are not all equal 🧠

Some attributes do most of the heavy lifting for eligibility, query matching, and which variants actually show. Others only help when the core fields are strong and aligned.

We’ve just shared a lesson breaking down:
⭐️ core vs supporting attributes
⭐️ required vs optional (valid doesn’t mean competitive)
⭐️ how attributes depend on each other
⭐️ what matters most by industry
⭐️ how to handle variants without diluting performance

If you’ve ever had a feed that looks “fine” but still underperforms, it’s usually because the attributes aren’t working together as a system.

Drop a comment, what’s the one that’s causing the most issues right now: titles, categories, product types, or variants?

Most stores have a product feed. Very few have an optimised one.

A feed can be valid in Google Merchant Center and still underperform. Because 'valid' just means it passes checks, not that it’s structured to match the right searches.

In this lesson, we break down what product feed optimisation actually is, how it differs from feed creation, and why feed quality is one of the biggest levers you can pull in Google Shopping and Performance Max.

We cover:
⭐️ what feed optimisation really means (in practice)
⭐️ why platforms read data like machines, not like humans
⭐️ how feed quality affects matching, coverage, and efficiency
⭐️ static feeds vs actively optimised feeds, and what 'active' actually looks like

Quick question: what’s the one part of your feed you rarely touch, titles, categories, or identifiers?

1.2
If some of your products never show in Google Shopping, it’s usually not a bidding problem.

Most of the time, it comes back to the feed.

Google only ranks products after it decides they’re relevant. If the feed doesn’t clearly explain what the product is, it can get filtered out before bidding even starts.

We’ve just shared a quick lesson on how Google matches queries to products, and why “more budget” often just means “more spend” on the same few items.

Want a quick sense check? Comment:
✅ a sample product title
✅ whether Google Product Category is set

and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Shoptimised Academy, Lesson 1 is live 💙

We’re starting with Feed Fundamentals, because your product feed is one of the biggest drivers of Shopping performance.

A lot of issues get treated like campaign problems. Bids, budgets, targeting, structure. But in practice, many of them start at feed level.

In this lesson, we break down:
⭐️ What data actually lives in a product feed
⭐️ What the feed controls vs what campaigns control
⭐️ Eligibility, relevance, and query matching
⭐️ Why campaigns cannot fix feed issues
⭐️ Why one feed change can lift performance across every campaign

If you manage Google Shopping, Performance Max, or product feeds, this is the foundation that makes everything else work.

Out-of-date Shopping data is one of the quickest ways to burn budget.

If your prices or stock change often, but your feed isn’t updating fast enough, Google can end up showing the wrong info. That usually shows up later as performance drops, more disapprovals, or paid clicks on products you cannot actually sell.

In this video, we break down feed caching, why it matters, and what to tighten up before peak.

⭐️ What feed caching is (in plain English)
⭐️ How stale cache snapshots waste spend
⭐️ Why update order matters (and how to stop Google caching old data)
⭐️ When more frequent caching becomes essential for high-SKU, promo-heavy retailers
⭐️ Why this matters most during sales events when pricing and stock move fast

Got a specific caching question? Drop it in the comments and we’ll help 💙

In this video, Sean covers:
⭐ What Advanced Performance Rules are and what problems they solve
⭐ How to set them up step by step inside Shoptimised
⭐ How to exclude products for a time window when performance drops
⭐ How to auto-label products based on performance for smarter segmentation

🚀 Black Friday isn’t just one day — it’s a multi-phase opportunity.

After analysing data from thousands of Google Shopping campaigns between 19 November and 8 December, we uncovered some surprising truths about when performance really peaks.

🔎 Here’s what the data reveals:

Early–mid November consistently delivers the strongest ROAS, the lowest CPCs, and the third-highest AOV often outperforming Black Friday itself.
Yes, demand surges on Black Friday… but so does competition, which pushes CPCs up and squeezes efficiency.

Treating Black Friday as a single day event leaves money (and performance) on the table.

💡 The smarter approach?

Think in phases — early shoppers, the main event, weekend tail-end, and even post-Cyber-Monday demand. Each phase behaves differently and should be budgeted and optimised accordingly.

✔️ Key takeaways for advertisers:

⦿ Don’t save everything for Black Friday scale early while efficiency is at its peak.
⦿ On the big day itself, monitor budgets and bids dynamically.
⦿ After the rush, take advantage of cheaper CPCs with retargeting and cross-sell activity.
⦿ If efficiency and profitability matter, the data is clear: you win Black Friday long before the day actually arrives.

Google loves your top sellers.
But what about the rest of your catalogue?

Most retailers let Google’s algorithm decide which products to show. The result? A handful of bestsellers get all the clicks, while thousands of products sit invisible in the feed.

Feed Optimisation changes that. By automatically optimising every single product, we surface hidden gems and turn them into your next best seller.

It’s not just optimisation. It’s sales growth you didn’t know you were missing.
