Sometimes the best business events aren’t really about business at all. 🙌

Last night’s Torfaen Business Voice meeting was one of the best turnouts I can remember, and the highlight was hearing from The The King’s Trust | Free Courses & Job Support and their young ambassadors, Georgia and Samiya.

Both spoke with so much confidence in front of a packed room, sharing their own stories and what The King’s Trust has done for them. Not easy to do at any age, let alone as a young person just starting out.

A massive credit to them both, and to the incredible work The King’s Trust does developing the skills and confidence of young people across Wales. Left feeling genuinely inspired. ✨

We’re proud to work with some brilliant manufacturing businesses, from companies on our doorstep here in South Wales to brands operating across the UK and internationally.

Our clients work across engineering, construction, packaging and consumer products, including Pro Steel Engineering, Brickfab, Packamama and Solar Buddies .

They might make very different things, but they have plenty in common: great ideas, skilled people, a commitment to quality and a constant drive to innovate and improve.

Working closely with these businesses gives us the opportunity to see the expertise, problem solving and hard work that goes on behind the scenes, and to help communicate those stories to a wider audience.

We spend a lot of our time helping clients communicate what they do, so we thought it was about time we created something of our own.

The Alliance is our newspaper, bringing together recent projects, marketing advice, ideas and a few things we’ve learned along the way.

In our first issue, we’re sharing work for Pro Steel Engineering, Transport for Wales, Dysgu, Food4Growth and the Torfaen Strategic Economic Forum, alongside practical thoughts on websites, marketing investment, annual reports and impact report design.

Can social media benefit any and every business?

In some way, probably yes. But that doesn’t mean every business should expect it to become a direct source of sales and enquiries.

Social media can be brilliant for building brand awareness, showing what you do, promoting products and services, sharing expertise and giving people an insight into the people and culture behind a business.

And sometimes that absolutely does lead to enquiries and sales.

But sometimes its role is much earlier in the journey.

Someone might see your posts for months before they need what you offer. Then, when that need arises, your business is already familiar to them.

That visibility has value, even when you can’t draw a straight line between a post and a sale.

A fresh perspective is always a good thing 👏

It was great having Lucy join us at Alliance for a week of work experience, getting involved in live projects, social media creative and our new Alliance newspaper.

We've been lucky to have some talented students spend time with us over the years, including Lucy, Mia and Tom. While placements give them an opportunity to experience agency life, they bring plenty to the team too.

Fresh thinking, creative ideas, different approaches and a willingness to try new things.

Sometimes having someone look at a brief without the assumptions that come from years of experience can make you look at it differently too.

Thanks for all your hard work and ideas, Lucy. We really enjoyed having you as part of the team!
