Let's Talk Cornwall!

The Creative Industries have been identified as a strategic priority sector with growth potential in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The findings of the Creative Census will enable the LEP (Local Enterprise Partnership) and Cornwall Council to create a data and evidence base to better understand the sector – its barriers to business growth, its potential opportunities - and practical ways in which they can focus support for the sector going forward.

You have until Sunday to fill it out:

Calling all creative kids!

Calling all creative kids!

We are reaching out to the community that is at the heart of this whole endeavour to help us create our props. We’re running a number of hands-on Community Making workshops throughout July and August for Origo Mundi (The Creation) – the first play of the St Just Ordinalia Trilogy.

The first is for The Garden of Eden - We’re seeking up to 30 green-fingered children (aged 8 years+) to help sow the seeds of the ultimate Terrestrial Paradise this summer. We are holding a fun-filled two days of free workshops in St Just Drill Hall on 10th and 11th August (from 10am – 4pm) where these little helpers will collectively weave the beautiful foliage, leaves and flowers that will form the earthly Utopia on stage this September.

Led by the brilliant professional Lafrowda Festival artist, Amanda Lorens (and her artistic assistant), the keen children will be using willow, tissue paper and paint (just as when making for Lafrowda processions) to create the leaves and flowers that will be a beautiful addition to the plays and form a lasting legacy to this significant Cornish cultural event. Children need to be able to attend both days and also display their creations on stage in the play itself on the 3rd, 4th and 5th September from 7- 8.15pm.

Please email [email protected] for more details. We would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly thank St Just Town Council for kindly funding these workshops.

Tomorrow night, 20 community areas in Cornwall and on the Isles of Scilly will host the Behind the Postcard premieres.

These different community groups and venues have been provided with fit-for-purpose kit to support not only the G7 film premiere, but also long-term legacy use for those people and spaces.

To find out details of the online premiere, and sign-up for you and your friends and family to be part of the Behind the Postcards movement, go to: https://cornwall365.com/events?s=behind+the+postcard

Discover what is 'Behind The Postcard', what’s at the forefront and what lies beneath Cornish life? What drives us and what inspires us – and why? Together with our creative, heritage and cultural colleagues, we’ve immersed ourselves in these questions and across our green and globally-facing peninsula, a memorable series of works have evolved, wrapping Cornwall and the G7 themes together.

Get ready to experience this new film tomorrow night (showing at the St Just Sports Centre at 5.30pm), commissioned for the G7 Summit which features over 30 talented filmmakers from right across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
