Here’s a small collection of images from the Silverstone 500. All focusing on the 3rd place finishers, and their McLaren 720s GT3.
The big difference between shooting for yourself as a spectator and shooting for a team with a time limited brief is you can’t afford to play it by ear, experiment and then spend 6 hours in lightroom, you have to plan, get a wide variety of shots, tag, keyword and deliver a gallery before the next session starts - there’s no time to wade through a million bursts, you can’t stay in one place and luck into a shot of a random car or scene, you’ve gotta run and you’ve got to get it right within a handful of attempts (not much time for photoshop) - I am not good at this and it’s the side of photography I need to work on the most. It’s no good handing a client just 3 wonder shots a week after the event, this is something I wish I had appreciated more as a spectator when looking at the media… it’s a very very different ball game, when you’ve seen how folks like and work up close you know you’ve got a lot to learn 🙂
Give it a try next time you’re at a track, 10 significantly different shots of a single car (of press quality) in a session with 1 hr to edit and keyword… and if you want to challenge yourself, every session has to be from a different location, now imagine you’ve got 3 cars to shoot in the same time frame 😉 Go! Let me know how you get on.
