So after yonks on the corporate wagon, I have started my own business.
This is how it all began - a story of Atom...
The very concept of this business started out around a year ago after a family friend asked for help with their website to improve their user interface, engagement, donations, and search engine rankings.
Their daughter was born with a very rare genetic disease and building a community, reaching out to other parents and driving awareness was a key challenge for them. Notwithstanding the more important daily challenges that they faced looking after a beautiful little girl, with the worry and the constant unknowns. Such a rare disease doesn't attract pharma investment, political noise, nor a detailed understanding from the many physicians and doctors they had seen.
Like my friends and their daughter, I believe in fighting for what's right, so I started researching, amending their site and sorting their SEO. All stuff well within my skillset, but what I didn't expect was how this would change things as much as they have.
In month one we increased from less than 50 to over 80 clicks from search engines. Within ten months we had over 480 organic search clicks. All for their top target keywords. During this time I had helped coach them to do best practice SEO on various bits and must do elements when managing their site, getting backlinks from their PR etc and so now it continues to grow without quite so much of my hands on involvement. I'm always happy to help when called upon though.
In all honesty I was just doing what I know and helping out in a way that I could. I was also working in a job I loved, and never entertained, nor had the confidence for going alone on this - aside from helping out friends for free.
Friends such as a good mate who started their own loft insulation and boarding business up last year and I'd later supported in their review management strategy, SEO and website conversion optimisation; Now booked up weeks in advance and having more holidays than I've had hot dinners. Good for them β€οΈ
Then in October, due to the increased costs in the industry I was working in I was made redundant. I immediately sorted a job with a SAAS start up, but that fell through after a month when investor confidence in the economy gave them colder feet than they had when they committed just 5 months earlier (bloody tories lol!!)
So I thought, 'why not help other businesses who need help?'. Doing something that I do best and am most passionate about.
Hence Atom was formed. Helping small and brilliant, passionate, businesses to grow with the support from another small businesses - let the atoms collide and go nuclear!
I may have been overthinking things when creating my brand but if you look closely you can deconstruct the logo into a heart, an earth and moon, and a rocket. That sums up my mission, to find businesses I love to work with and aim to break orbit.
