Grey Crawford — Chroma Vol. II: 1978–1985
We’re delighted to present the second volume of Grey Crawford’s groundbreaking photography project. After a chance meeting at the LA Art Book Fair, Crawford’s work struck us as both timeless and historically significant — capturing Los Angeles at the dawn of globalisation through a radical aesthetic devised through an experimental approach to photography that was unique his own.

This new volume features essays by Mark Rawlinson and Jonathan Casciani, exploring Crawford’s place within the late-70s LA art scene and how his work bridges minimalism, land art, Light and Space, and the digital age.

Volumes I & II are also available together in a special limited-edition slipcase. Available online.

We’re delighted to invite you to the opening of our new exhibition this Friday, 6–9pm: David Crouch – A Cultural Landscape - all welcome!
Crouch’s sensitive, atmospheric paintings explore our relationship with place, landscape, and everyday spaces, shaped by his distinguished career in cultural geography. His much-loved 1989 book ‘The Allotment’ examined the cultural history and enduring importance of allotments in the UK as spaces of community, care, and self-sufficiency — later inspiring a BBC Two series.

A tribute to Ben Kelly Design. About 17 years ago I found myself in Ben Kelly’s studio on Borough Market as our paths crossed on an the design of an arts centre. Famous as the designers of the iconic Hacienda, his work is well known for its strong and colour graphic qualities. On visiting his studio located on the first floor of one the victorian buildings in borough market I did not encounter a slick interior that I was expecting, but a very casual and creative space. One of the only concession to ‘interior design’ in the studio was some buckets hanging upside down repurposed as a lampshades. So this morning, in need of a display prop for our stand at Photo London, Ben’s bucket lampshades came to mind. Buckets now repurposed as book display!

The second print is from 1955 lower east side of New York, showing a family sitting on the door step. Bohm was displaced as teenager at the onset of WWII and was separated from her family for over 20 years. At Photo London we’re joined this afternoon by Daniel Rapley who will be signing copies of his book ‘Drift’. Drift is a series of works constructed from an archive of slides from house clearances made over a 7 year period. The work has an intriguing painterly quality, often surreal and brings into focus authorship and memory. Come and say hello to Daniel and team Beam.
