It’s the penultimate weekend to see David Crouch’s A Cultured Landscape at Beam, Nottingham.

The exhibition has been quietly transforming our walls with thoughtful paintings that explore place, memory, and the landscapes we inhabit. If you’ve been meaning to visit, now’s a good time — there’s just one weekend left after this one before the show closes.

Alongside the exhibition, we’ve got coffee from Yallah on the bar, and with our high ceilings and garden, we’re a great place to spend time and stay comfortable during humid weather.

If you’re looking for somewhere to spend an hour or two this weekend, come by, grab a coffee, and take in the show while you still can.

THIS WEEK AT BEAM
David Crouch – A Cultural Landscape.

Crouch has had a long academic career as cultural geographer, and his much-loved and highly regarded 1989 book ‘The Allotment’ and related BBC 2 TV series examined the cultural history and enduring importance of UK allotments. Alongside his academic work he has maintained a painting practice for over 50 years, where landscape has remained at the heart of his work.

Grey Crawford — Chroma Vol. II: 1978–1985
We’re delighted to present the second volume of Grey Crawford’s groundbreaking photography project. After a chance meeting at the LA Art Book Fair, Crawford’s work struck us as both timeless and historically significant — capturing Los Angeles at the dawn of globalisation through a radical aesthetic devised through an experimental approach to photography that was unique his own.

This new volume features essays by Mark Rawlinson and Jonathan Casciani, exploring Crawford’s place within the late-70s LA art scene and how his work bridges minimalism, land art, Light and Space, and the digital age.

Volumes I & II are also available together in a special limited-edition slipcase. Available online.

Crouch’s sensitive, atmospheric paintings explore our relationship with place, landscape, and everyday spaces, shaped by his distinguished career in cultural geography. A tribute to Ben Kelly Design. About 17 years ago I found myself in Ben Kelly’s studio on Borough Market as our paths crossed on an the design of an arts centre. Famous as the designers of the iconic Hacienda, his work is well known for its strong and colour graphic qualities. On visiting his studio located on the first floor of one the victorian buildings in borough market I did not encounter a slick interior that I was expecting, but a very casual and creative space. One of the only concession to ‘interior design’ in the studio was some buckets hanging upside down repurposed as a lampshades. So this morning, in need of a display prop for our stand at Photo London, Ben’s bucket lampshades came to mind. Buckets now repurposed as book display!
