I love networking and attending events where I can meet new people. I always try to connect with people on LinkedIn where I can. But it’s also worth considering what happens when you give someone your business card, a leaflet or other printed media. Has this helped you build your database or generate new leads? If not read on.

Many businesses I meet invest time and money into networking events, exhibitions, printed brochures and leaflets, yet often overlook what happens next.

The reality is that traditional marketing rarely generates a sale on its own. Its purpose is to create awareness, spark interest and begin a relationship. Digital marketing helps you continue that conversation, build trust and ultimately convert interest into enquiries and sales.

Rather than treating traditional and digital marketing as separate activities, the most successful businesses combine them into a seamless customer journey.

Summer marketing checklist - As the summer holidays swiftly approach, many of us are looking forward to spending time with family, taking a well-earned break, and recharging after a busy first half of the year. For many businesses, summer can also be a little quieter.

While it is important to switch off and enjoy some time away from work, the quieter weeks can be the perfect opportunity to take stock of your marketing, update your online presence, and start planning for what is often a busy September.

You don’t need to spend hours every day working. Even setting aside a couple of hours each week can make a significant difference and leave you feeling much more organised when business picks up again.

Here are a few ideas to help you make the most of the summer. https://shamshadwalker.co.uk/blog/summer-marketing-checklist

How do marketers get marketing advice and support? They call in the A-Team, of course!

Over the past few weeks, these fantastic students Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University have been working on a consultancy project for me. Ketki Gaikwad, Kylian Nafackdonfack, Samuel Acheampong and Madhu Panwar, supported by their lecturer Chiamaka Kwazu

Today they presented their recommendations, and I came away with some brilliant ideas for launching my Marketing Club in London.

When you spend so much of your time helping other businesses with their marketing, it can be surprisingly difficult to step back and focus on your own plans. Having an external perspective challenged my thinking, generated fresh ideas and highlighted opportunities that I had not considered.

The students should be incredibly proud of what they achieved. Their professionalism, creativity and enthusiasm really shone through.

If you are a business looking for fresh ideas, I would highly recommend taking advantage of this opportunity through Nottingham Trent University. It is a fantastic way to gain valuable insights while giving students the chance to apply their knowledge to real business challenges.

A huge thank you to the team for all your hard work. I am looking forward to putting your recommendations into action. London here I come! 😀

It was great to deliver my first Marketing Club workshop in Leicester yesterday morning at the LCB Depot.

Although not everyone who booked could attend, the businesses that did were fantastic. It was a really interactive session with plenty of questions, discussions and, most importantly, time for everyone to work on improving their LinkedIn profiles.

The LCB Depot was the perfect venue, and the freshly baked banana loaf and croissants were a welcome bonus!

Thank you to everyone who came along and contributed to such an engaging morning.

Watch this space for more Marketing Club workshops from September onwards. I am currently developing a new programme with practical, hands-on sessions designed to help small businesses strengthen their marketing and achieve better results.

If there is a marketing topic you would like to see covered, let me know in the comments.

What a fantastic evening at the latest Rushcliffe Business Partnership networking event.

More than 50 local businesses came together to connect, learn and share ideas in a stunning setting. The event was hosted by the Chair of RBP, Tim Ryan

A huge thank you to Katie Deacon Hypnotherapy for sharing practical advice on managing stress and protecting our wellbeing. As small business owners, our stress buckets can fill up very quickly, so taking time to understand how to recognise and manage stress is invaluable.

It was also inspiring to hear Matt Parfitt reflect on his 19-year journey of building successful businesses while creating opportunities for people who might otherwise struggle to find employment. A great reminder that commercial success and social impact can go hand in hand.

The beautiful venue, delicious canapés and great conversations made for a brilliant evening. Thank you to everyone who came along. I'm already looking forward to the next one.

And it was great to watch Gemma Wilks - Brand and Commercial Photographer 📸 in action too 😀

Many businesses invest heavily in social media, Google Ads, SEO, and networking to drive more traffic to their website.

But if visitors leave within seconds because the experience is poor, that marketing investment is being wasted. User experience affects: Trust, Enquiries, Sales, Conversion rates and Customer confidence

This is exactly why we will be discussing website user experience at the next Marketing Club workshop on Tuesday 16 June in Nottingham.

UX expert Jack Follis will be joining us to share practical insight into the common website mistakes that cost businesses leads and customers every day.

The session will also include an interactive workshop in which attendees can review their own websites and identify opportunities for improvement.

Bring your laptop and be ready to work on your website while we are together. https://shamshadwalker.co.uk/marketing-club/event/28-the-marketing-club-nottingham-june-2026

Many small businesses focus heavily on driving more traffic to their website.
But what happens when people arrive on your website?

Your website could be getting visitors every day, yet still losing enquiries and sales because the experience is confusing, frustrating, or unclear. User experience (UX) isn’t just about design. It’s about how easy it is for people to understand what you do, trust your business, and take the next step.

Small improvements in user experience can often have a bigger commercial impact than spending more money on advertising. I have written a blog about why user experience matters so much for small businesses and marketers.

Have you ever left a website because it was too difficult to use? If so, read on. https://shamshadwalker.co.uk/blog/why-user-experience-matters-on-your-website
