What an absolute joy yesterday was! Our legendary Nottingham City Business Club Christmas lunch did not disappoint. What a day! Daniel Priestley was a total highlight. Hearing him live, talking about how we step confidently into 2026, gave us all that little spark we didn’t know we needed. Inspiring, energising and a perfect fit for the room.

But let’s talk about the real Christmas miracle, Deborah Bond. I will never understand how she pulls all this together with such calm, style and good humour. The amount of work she handles behind the scenes is unreal. She’s basically Santa, the elves and the entire Notts Pole admin team rolled into one. Hats off, you’re incredible.

And then there’s the rest of our gang. So many people muck in, help out and give their time simply because they want everyone to have a great experience. You lot are the heart of it all.

I’m really proud to be part of this team, fun, generous and always up for making something special happen. The atmosphere in that room was pure joy.

To all our members, have the loveliest Christmas and a bright, brilliant new year. Here’s to more magic in 2026. 🎄

Today marks 11 years since I decided to go it alone and start VB Marketing. It still feels a bit surreal to say that out loud.

I genuinely love what I do. Helping businesses feel confident in their marketing, their plans and, often, in themselves too. I’ve had the privilege of working with some incredible clients, and I’ve learnt something from every single one.

To my clients past and present, and to all the people who’ve supported me, collaborated with me and cheered me on along the way... thank you for the trust, the laughs, the cake and the belief.

My work-life balance is something I’m really proud of. It’s not by chance, it’s something I worked hard for. I’m so grateful to be in a place where I can say I love both my work and my life.

Here’s to whatever comes next. ❤️

A great start to the week attending my first ScreenPop launch meeting hosted in Nottingham City Centre at Alea Casino Nottingham (scary dungeon parking but faced my fears!). Such a lovely welcoming group, I really enjoyed seeing everyone and the mix of businesses. And I even won the prize for best prop (trusty old rubik cube trick). I hope to join a group next year.

We listened to two talks, one on character art and illustration for business by Richard Smith and then neuroscience behind why hypnotherapy from Katie Deacon... fascinating!

Wow – what a turnout! We had record numbers at Friday’s Nottingham City Business Club, with 121 business professionals from across the East Midlands joining us. It was brilliant to see the room buzzing with conversation and connection.

Our guest speaker, Mark Saxby inspired us all to “Be More Colin” - taking time to step back, switch off, and give our minds the breathing space they deserve. He reminded us how constantly being glued to our phones can impact our performance and mental health.

The jaw-drop moment for me? Learning that the average screen time in the UK is 6 hours a day. When Mark broke that down, it hit home... that’s 5 whole years of my life if I carry on at this pace! 😳

Let’s just say my phone will be having a few more early nights from now on... and I’ll be reclaiming a bit more real screen-free living.

Yesterday I attended the WREN networking event at Six at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground. It’s such a great setting for meeting people and having those good-quality business chats over coffee and brunch (love a brunch!).

We heard from footballer legend Jason Lee, who was absolutely brilliant. He shared insights from his time in professional football and his work in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, showing how organisations can genuinely improve their approach to EDI. We can all help with this!

Huge thanks to Fiona and Tamsin for organising another fantastic event. It’s always such a warm, friendly atmosphere and a great way to start the day. Very happy with my theatre ticket raffle prize. Eureka Day here I come! ⭐️

Happy Friday all! Ive been mentoring the amazing Warda Aroui on her business strategy and marketing this week… she’s an absolute grafter and always with joy and positivity. She even baked a cake for our meeting… winner! Excited times ahead for Magic Moments Events.

Had a lush cuppa and catch-up with Claire Scott 💫 from Boss Babes Networking UK, who runs lovely, informal networking for women in business here in Nottingham (and other towns)… and creates the most wizzy Wix websites, to boot. We met at my local and charming Bread & Lard Island in Lady Bay. I practically live there! Thank you, Ben and Sally!

We both do marketing and website-building, so there was plenty to chat about…what’s working, what’s not, and how our skills might complement each other on future projects.

Claire reminded me I really ought to pin down a date for our first Nottingham marketers’ social! I’m imagining a small group of local marketing consultants, a fabulous meal somewhere in town, and a lovely evening of conversation, support and inspiration (and wine obvs).

A Quick Glimpse into the “Bread & Lard Island” Nickname
The term “Bread and Lard Island” is a cheeky nickname often used for West Bridgford (and by extension Lady Bay). It nods to a light-hearted view in the mid‑19th century that residents spend heavily on lovely homes and finer things, so only bread and lard remain for daily meals. All said in good humour, of course! Also referred to as ‘all fur and no knickers’! 🤣

What an awesome Bank Holiday in the Lakes with new friends, just what the mind and body needed. There’s something powerful about stepping away from the noise, surrounding yourself with good people, pushing yourself a little bit, and soaking up the views.
