Sometimes a picture may look great on screen but until it's engraved on to slate you really can't tell.

I often get asked how I prepare my slate and it's something that's down to preference. I always polish the slate before I engrave - it's dusty work and you have to wear a good quality mask, so many engravers skip this step.
I do have a fantastic view when I'm sanding though!

It's been too hot in the laser shed until this evening, so while I babysit the laser (I'm engraving and cutting wood, so small risk of fire) I get to enjoy this beautiful sunset.

Another evening in the laser shed when you have a view like this it's not such a bad thing.
