I am game, anyone else?

⚽ The countdown is on… and our two MGroup teams are getting match-ready for the Oxford City Football Club Business 6-a-Side Tournament 2025.

We’ve had a great response so far, but there’s still room for a few guest players from local businesses to join in.

👟 You don’t need to be a football star. Just bring a pair of trainers, a bit of team spirit, and a sense of humour.

This is business networking, but not as you know it, no suits, no slides, just a bit of healthy competition and a lot of laughs.

Behind the scenes of coaching grassroots football, it’s not all about pitch-side coaching and training. There is a huge amount of admin, organisation, management, leadership, and weekly washing.

So why, when I have to do all of the above in my working week, would I choose to coach the U9’s Hook Norton Junior Football Club Hammerheads? This post is not about the benefits it gives the kids, of which there are many; selfishly, it’s about me.

Simply put, it is one of my happy places. Family and coaching are my two favourite things. Coaching gives me work-life balance, providing a break in the week to think about something non-work-related.

It has brought rewards, a greater purpose, and new friendships to my world. I go to work on a Thursday following Wednesday night training happier.

Weekend work is unavoidable when you run two businesses, but I would never miss a Saturday game, which forces me to stop and have a break.

If you are finding work stressful, make sure you find one or two happy places.

Big shout out to my fellow coaches Paul and Will.

I was very happy to have the opportunity to represent SpecialEffect this Saturday at the Wolves vs Brentford game.

Sporting my EA Sports FC 24 top, which I won at last year's Legends Lunch raffle, added an extra layer of excitement to the occasion. The Urban Element team consistently supports SpecialEffect through various means, such as participating in half marathons, Twin Town Challenge 2020 events, attending lunches, and conquering mud runs.

As an ambassador for the charity, I take my role very seriously, always ready to lend a hand in supporting and raising awareness. Grateful for the chance to contribute to such a meaningful cause!
