24/06/2021

We are looking for a talented, full-stack PHP developer to join the team. You will have had at least 2 years in a commercial context and your portfolio covers a variety of web applications. You may have had a chance to dabble in mobile development, too, but it's not a requirement.

You have good communication skills and have had the opportunity to work in Agile or multi-disciplinary teams. Alterntively, you've been working product-side and are keen to stretch your wings in an agency. You might have had the opportunity to work with Test Driven Development but, ultimately, the thing that gets you out of bed is growing professionally.

This is a mid-weight role and we are looking for PHP developers from Graduate level to Senior. So even if you're not sure you quite tick the boxes, do send in your CV and Cover Letter so we can have a chat. We look forward to hearing from you!

We are an equal opportunities employer. However, please note this job is only open to those with residency and the right to work in the UK.

No agencies, please.

We’re looking for a graduate or junior Python Developer to join our team in the heart of Oxford. We are an award winning, full service digital agency, which means you will get to work on a diverse and challenging portfolio whilst supporting teammates and driving innovation.

You will have a computer science, or equivalent degree; you spent some of your time working with Python and, ideally, Django. If you are a junior, you have at least 1 year of commercial experience.

This role will see you join a multidisciplinary team looking after our Python and Django projects. You are looking to grow and will have the opportunity to test and strengthen your knowledge in some interesting areas. You’ll also have the chance to research and drive innovative approaches for clients and internal projects alike. Finally, you are keen to be given some space to grow; exploring options for projects, diving into architectural concepts, or trying your hand at solving problems you spot inn a project.

Your responsibilities will include:

Python / Django application development
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Presenting your work to your teammates
Striving to grow and improve

You will have:

You are fluent in Python - with or without Stack Overflow assistance.

You hold basic knowledge of a low(er) level language - you cannot forget memory management.

You have found the right end of an SQL database.

You have heard of Docker and have an opinion about it.

You would create your own server/library, because it's fun

You would skim the tutorial and start experimenting rather than take a full course

You fail at time management, but take the time to keep trying - because it is important

You already have an idea of what would need doing next.

Experience in one of: Django, Wagtail, Drupal, C #, React, Ionic, Cordova

Great communication skills; written and face to face

Pride in code quality and an interest in test-driven development

You might have (but it’s not a deal breaker):

Experience with PHP development
Comfortable with day-to-day sysadmin tasks on Linux via command line
You’ve integrated a couple of APIs

Salary and Benefits:

This role has a competitive starting salary based on experience. Global Initiative believes in paying fair salaries and is an equal opportunities employer.

We have a wide range of benefits which can be seen at https://www.global-initiative.com/careers

But if you’re interested, the top 3 things our staff love about working here are:

The variety of projects and technologies we get to use and try
A strong ethos around healthy work / life balance
A collaborative, supportive environment of team-building

We are an equal opportunities employer. However, please note this job is only open to those with residency and the right to work in the UK.

No agencies, please.

We are looking for a talented and passionate visual designer to guide and complement the outstanding UX our team delivers. How long you've been doing it is less important to us than how well you apply yourself. You may be a junior or a mid weight, but your portfolio speaks of both sensitive and bold design. You love creating brands, digital interfaces, and have dabbled in some print; you can't stop yourself designing, you're a true fanatic!

You will join our Creative Chapter which includes the UX and Front End Developers. They have fortnightly chapter meetings to explore trends, critique each other's work, and find ways to improve the transition of our clients' projects from idea to reality.

Global Initiative is Oxford's leading digital agency, and we're growing. If you are interested in joining a well respected team, producing exciting solutions, and leveraging our success to help Tech for Good, then this might just be the perfect place for you.

Your responsibilities will include:

Involvement in designing brands, websites, web- and mobile-based interfaces, as well as some printed collateral
Taking creative briefs from clients and translating them into visual concepts
Pitching your ideas to external and internal stakeholders
Helping critique existing solutions and propose ways to improve them
Translating UI concepts into Zeplin and support the front end developers

You will have:

A qualification in design
Good knowledge of Adobe products
A portfolio you are proud to show off
Experience designing logos, typography, and layouts for digital media (and possibly print)
1 or 2 years' experience in industry
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Nice to haves:

Experience working in an agency or consultancy
Experience pitching ideas to clients and internal stakeholders
Working with a multi disciplinary team
Exploring user experience tools and research
Experience in agile methodologies
Face to face time with clients

Things to make you even happier:

Part time considered.
Very competitive salaries
Macbook pro or laptop PC with the latest Adobe Suite
A budget for hardware, software, and accessories
Tax-free bike scheme (through Cycle to Work)
5 days paid sick leave
4% matched company pension scheme
Cash health plan

Things to love about the company:

A huge variety of projects and technologies to keep you interested every day
A strong culture of work / life balance. We’re strongly encouraged to go home at 17:30
Opportunities to gain experience in new fields
A collaborative, supportive environment of team-building
A company that contributes to worthy causes and projects
An airy, spacious office right in the very heart of Oxford city
Takeaway Tuesdays
Games Nights
Hack days

Wait, you don't think you're right for the role but have a burning passion for all things digital? Then you should be in touch and tell us what we're missing out on!

We are an equal opportunities employer. However, please note this job is only open to those with residency and the right to work in the UK.

No agencies, please.

We can highly recommend the taste Tibet classes!

Did you know that Taste Tibet also runs cooking classes? Zoom is our friend for the time being, but we can’t wait to host you in our restaurant for in person sessions soon.

Please get in touch through our website if you’d like us to get your team making momos! Meantime huge thanks to Global Initiative for inviting us to take part in their office event. We really enjoyed meeting everyone and were seriously impressed with your 🥟🥟

Posted • What a great team building session to have in lockdown! Huge thank you to Julie & Yeshi of for an excellent virtual cooking class. Fascinating insight into their history and the traditions around Tibet's food culture.

We've been enjoying their momos back in the days of Gloucester Green Market, so extra special treat to learn how to make them!

Quentin said it best:
"That was very good, thanks for their tips, explanations, stories, it was a nice activity and an enjoyable moment. They are sending positive energies which gare needed nowadays."
