Another in the 2026 Holywell desk calendar this month. June's image shows our busy factory at the Maclaren Gymnasium in Alfred Street, Oxford. Seventeen compositors worked in shifts to typeset publications on one monotype and five linotype machines. The factory ran seven printing presses, creating publications for Oxford Colleges, University Departments, and the commercial sector.

Happy ! If you're working your way through our 2026 desk calendar, you'll see that this month celebrates our association with William Morris (later Lord Nuffield).
In the early 20th Century, Holywell Press printed advertisements for the original Morris cars. Holywell founder Harry Burrows and William Morris became great friends, and, in May 1942, when Harry received a letter requisitioning the Holywell factory for 'work of national importance', William stepped in to save the premises (and the Company).
