A letter addressed to an imaginary person in a place that doesn’t exist...✨
This fantasy address was created as part of my Copperplate Specialist Skills Award with the Calligraphy & Lettering Arts Society. I couldn’t resist inventing a character in an enchanted corner of the world for this assignment.
Written in pink Schmincke gouache on olive green paper, in classic Copperplate with plenty of flourishing!

It was a real honour to add the latest entries to the Chesham Town Hall Mayor’s Honours Board.

The set of beautiful boards were made by local signwriter Bill of Traditional Signs, who sadly passed away in early 2025. Bill painted the very first entry on this latest himself, so it felt really special to be invited to continue his work and update with the new mayor.

All lettering was completely hand drawn and traditionally gilded using 24ct gold leaf ✨

Traditional signwriting and gilding still has such an important place in preserving craftsmanship, heritage and character within public spaces.

On Sunday I delivered a mini glass gilding drop-in workshop for the Arts Week organised by students of Brasenose college in Oxford.
I pre-prepared ampersands painted onto the reverse of glass.
Participants learned to apply various variegated metal leafs & imitation gold to the designs and experimented with different combinations, colours and there was glitter too!
I also showed them examples of real gold leaf and explained the techniques of water and oil gilding to achieve different results.
It was a lovely end to their Arts Week, a brilliant group of students with some great results!
