The Johnstone Fire Engine Rally is roaring back to Houstoun Square for the first time since 2019 – and we’re delighted to see it return! 🚒

The action gets underway at 11am on Saturday 15 August, when fire engines from days past and present will parade from Johnstone Fire Station on Kings Road before making their way to Houstoun Square.

From 12pm until 4pm, the square will come alive with plenty of family fun. You can enjoy:
• An impressive display of historic fire engines
• Safety demonstrations from the Fire Service
• Live performances in the bandstand
• Johnstone Business Consortium's indoor market
• Free face painting and walkabout performers

The Johnstone Fire Engine Rally is a great family day out with plenty to see and enjoy. We cannot wait!

If you’re planning to visit Paisley Recycling Centre on Underwood Road soon, please remember to bring proof of residency in Renfrewshire, such as a valid driving licence or utility bill.

Although proof of residency has long been a requirement, it hasn’t always been routinely checked. Staff at the centre are now stepping up checks to make sure the facility is being used by Renfrewshire residents.

Unfortunately, some members of the team have faced angry and abusive behaviour from visitors who haven’t brought the required documentation. This shouldn’t be happening. Please come prepared and, above all, treat staff with respect.

The new Paisley Grammar School Community Campus will welcome pupils later this month, with the first images of the finished interior shown on Renfrewshire Council’s social media yesterday. The incredible £85.5 million campus was completed on time and on budget.

The state-of-the-art school can accommodate up to 1,350 pupils and features specialist science and STEM facilities, drama and performance spaces, enhanced sports facilities, and modern learning environments.

It will also become home to Renfrewshire's Music School, with purpose-built facilities for young musicians from across the area.

Massive Collectibles Event 😮⚠️🚨

The Salvation Army Donation Centre Renfrew is gearing up for what could be its biggest event to date. Cosmic Collectibles features a huge range of games, figures, books, consoles, Lego, toys and much more. We spotted everything from a vintage Commodore 64 and Sega Saturn to PlayStations and accessories. Collectibles include favourites from Doctor Who, Pokémon, Funko, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel and Disney. And we've only seen a fraction of what's available.

Today, thousands of young people across Renfrewshire are receiving their exam results.

With pass rates in Scotland increasing this year, many students will have plenty to celebrate – and that's wonderful to see. Congratulations to everyone achieving the results they worked so hard for.

For those whose results aren't what they hoped, remember that these grades are just one chapter in your journey. They don't define your potential, your talents or your future. There are always different routes to success, and new opportunities ahead.

Congratulations to everyone receiving their results today, and wishing you every success in whatever path you choose next. Your future is shaped by far more than a single set of results.

On the back of our recent post about Friends of Barshaw Park's "Behind the Wall" project, here's a reminder that they are looking for Trustees to help guide and support the charity.

TRUSTEE RECRUITMENT 🌳

Friends of Barshaw Park is seeking to recruit new Trustees to help guide and support the charity as it enters an important new phase in the development of Barshaw Park.

Over the next 12 to 18 months, the charity will focus on building financial resilience, supporting its volunteers, developing the Community Garden, and progressing the Behind the Wall project, which will explore the potential restoration of dilapidated buildings within the Walled Garden.

Applications are welcomed from people with experience in fundraising, property, volunteer management, digital communications, health and safety, inclusion, governance, business administration, or organisational development.

Previous trustee experience is not essential. Friends of Barshaw Park welcomes interest from people of all backgrounds who care about the park and would like to contribute to its future.

Friends of Barshaw Park – who do an incredible job looking after this popular area – have been awarded funding through Renfrewshire Council's Sustainable Communities Fund to carry out a feasibility study for the "Behind the Wall" area. 😀

The vision is to restore the historic garden wall and buildings and transform this underused space into a vibrant community hub with workshops, creative spaces, volunteering opportunities, and areas that support health, wellbeing and learning.

By using sustainable restoration, recycled materials and wildlife-friendly design, the project aims to celebrate Barshaw's heritage while creating a greener, more inclusive space for everyone.

We wish Friends of Barshaw Park the best of luck in developing this fantastic idea.
