🖥️✨ to the Year 2000 ✨🖥️
Back when the internet was still finding its voice, I had the chance to design news graphics for ZDNet UK News — a time when Web 1.0 reigned supreme. No dynamic content. No auto-play videos. Just static HTML, tables, and that unmistakable retro aesthetic that defined early digital media.
The designs were bold, blocky, and built to fit within 800x600 screens. Every GIF had to count. Every pixel mattered. These graphics carried the news in a world before mobile-first was even a concept.
Swipe to see some of those original designs — frozen in time, but still carrying that raw, Y2K energy. The images convey an interesting insight into the stories that were big at the time, around about the time of the dot com crash. I created hundreds of these designs!
