Webfooted Designs As a small business owner you have a million and one things to do, don’t you? We understand, we’re a small business too. Well, hello there. Nice to meet you!

Let us look after your website for you and you will have one thing less to worry about. We’re Emily Tarrant and Michael Rose. We’re based in St Just in the far west of Cornwall where we run Webfooted Designs together, building and maintaining small business websites. We’re two regular humans running a regular small business together. Okay, “regular” might be pushing it a bit – we’re unashamedly ge

eky and are never happier than when we’re sat at our computers playing around with a bit of website code. We know what it’s like to be a small business owner trying to do everything from making that all-important first cup of coffee in the morning to serving your clients to working on your business development. The list can be never ending can’t it? But you don’t need to do everything yourself. If you would like help with the fiddly job of managing your website give us a shout. It’s what we do best!

Hey, Emily here. I sometimes wonder how I can justify taking time out of my working day to go to networking events. I should be at my desk getting work done, shouldn't I?

Yes, doing my job is important, but so is getting away from my computer for a few hours and meeting other business owners.

I've got three networking events that I regularly go to:

✅ Women in Business Lunch at Penventon Park Hotel, Redruth (run by Your Partnerships)
✅ Coffee and Coworking at the Hall for Cornwall, Truro (run by the Women's Business Club)
✅ And (of course!) our very own monthly Tuesday morning meetup of the Far West Business Network

They do all take me away from my office for a chunk of time, particularly the first two that I have to travel to. But I get so much out of attending, I really wouldn't do without them.

This is what I love about networking:
👫 I get to meet other business owners and share experiences - that feeling of connection is important to me.
🦸‍♀️ I get to catch up with some of the fabulous people that I work with (shout out to Trudi and Ann).
👩‍🎤 I get advice and inspiration - if I've got a problem I can ask for help, and hearing about how the others are running their businesses can give me that spark of inspiration that I need.
💁‍♀️ I get to give advice and help others - I love it when I can use my 20+ years of running my own business to help somebody else.

Of course it can also result in finding new clients, and you might think I'm a bit of a weirdo for saying this, but that's not my main focus. I prefer to think of networking as a way to build relationships, get ideas for how I can improve my business, and find other business owners to work with. I'm definitely not one for the hard sell!

If you've thought about dabbling in a bit of business networking but aren't sure if it's for you, why don't you come along to one of the FWBN meetups? We're friendly and welcoming, the events are free, and we'd love to meet you!

I set up the Far West Business Network in March 2024 because I wanted to bring the local business community together, and create opportunities for other local businesses to get to know each other and provide support for each other. Whether that’s practical advice to improve how we run our businesses or a bit of connection to help us feel less isolated in what we do.

The focus is very much on community. I know as a business owner that things can feel a bit lonely at times, and I get so focused on what I’m doing that it can get overwhelming. I’m a web designer, so I basically spend my days sat at my computer interacting with my screen. Sometimes I won’t talk to another person or at best my interaction with other humans is over Zoom. But you know what, actually being in a room with other people, who understand what it’s like to run a business, makes a world of difference.

We're an informal and friendly group. I want us to build relationships within the group in a natural unpressured fashion and leave the meetings feeling like we’ve benefited in some way. There are no membership fees and the events are free (we just ask that you support the venue by buying yourself a drink and possibly some cake while you're there).

We meet on the second Tuesday of every month for a morning of networking at the Phoenix Café in St Just. And also hold quarterly evening events at various venues in the area. Talking of which ... our next evening event is this Thursday! If you'd like to come please book yourself a place here: https://www.farwestbusiness.co.uk/event/fwbn-evening-event-may-2026/

This month we’re delighted to shine the spotlight on Jamie of St.Just DIY & Gardening LTD. I’m sure that you haven’t failed to notice Jamie getting stuck in with the shop since he took it over in March of last year. The shop has a vast range of products for gardening, DIY, plumbing, electrical, paint and more. And if you can’t find what you’re looking for, chances are they’ll be able to order it in for you.
