Hey, Emily here. I sometimes wonder how I can justify taking time out of my working day to go to networking events. I should be at my desk getting work done, shouldn't I?
Yes, doing my job is important, but so is getting away from my computer for a few hours and meeting other business owners.
I've got three networking events that I regularly go to:
✅ Women in Business Lunch at Penventon Park Hotel, Redruth (run by Your Partnerships)
✅ Coffee and Coworking at the Hall for Cornwall, Truro (run by the Women's Business Club)
✅ And (of course!) our very own monthly Tuesday morning meetup of the Far West Business Network
They do all take me away from my office for a chunk of time, particularly the first two that I have to travel to. But I get so much out of attending, I really wouldn't do without them.
This is what I love about networking:
👫 I get to meet other business owners and share experiences - that feeling of connection is important to me.
🦸♀️ I get to catch up with some of the fabulous people that I work with (shout out to Trudi and Ann).
👩🎤 I get advice and inspiration - if I've got a problem I can ask for help, and hearing about how the others are running their businesses can give me that spark of inspiration that I need.
💁♀️ I get to give advice and help others - I love it when I can use my 20+ years of running my own business to help somebody else.
Of course it can also result in finding new clients, and you might think I'm a bit of a weirdo for saying this, but that's not my main focus. I prefer to think of networking as a way to build relationships, get ideas for how I can improve my business, and find other business owners to work with. I'm definitely not one for the hard sell!
If you've thought about dabbling in a bit of business networking but aren't sure if it's for you, why don't you come along to one of the FWBN meetups? We're friendly and welcoming, the events are free, and we'd love to meet you!
