Plymouth Albion Launch 2026/27 Home and Away Kits at Tinside Lido - Plymouth Active 🏉

The 2026/27 Plymouth Albion RFC replica kits are here, with tradition at the heart of Plymouth Albion's new home shirt and a bold new away design celebrating the continued support of their Principal Partner, Nevada Construction.

Nevada have proudly occupied the front of the Plymouth Albion shirt since the beginning of the 2023/24 season and, after extending their commitment through to the end of 2026/27, their colours now provide the inspiration for one of Albions most distinctive away shirts.

At home, the traditional white, cherry and green hoops remain unmistakably Albion. On the road, they go bold. Orange and blue. Nevada colours.

The 2026/27 away shirt represents something different for Plymouth Albion.
Featuring a striking orange and blue design, the shirt takes its inspiration directly from Nevada Construction, recognising a relationship that has become an important part of the club both on and off the pitch.

Their support reaches much further than their position on the shirt, with Nevada continuing to play an active role across the club and the wider Plymouth community.

Review: Moulin Rouge! The Musical at Theatre Royal Plymouth

Moulin Rouge! The Musical paints the town red, bringing a glittering Parisian party to Theatre Royal Plymouth. The Lyric was full last night for this highly anticipated production and we could not contain our excitement. Thank you to Theatre Royal Plymouth for inviting us to their PR event.

Now, whether you’re a fan of the big-screen version or have never seen it before, this show is well worth seeing for the costumes, set, and choreography alone. It’s a no-expense-spared affair filled with decades of top hits and skilful mash-ups, high-energy choreography, breathtaking vocals, and costumes that will make you ‘free your lady Marmalade’. This musical is essentially a mixtape to a rather tragic story that’s also filled with humour and tender moments that will melt your heart.

We meet Christian, a young writer who heads to Paris in search of inspiration. He falls head over heels with Satine, the beautiful and incredibly talented courtesan performing at the Moulin Rouge. Their love is not meant to be, as she is promised to a wealthy duke to save the famous cabaret from its financial demise. The love triangle delivers plenty of thrills, moments of pure love, desire, rivalry, and heartbreak—which, mixed with the perfectly matched jukebox hits, made my hand reach for the tissues more times than I anticipated.

Now, I am fully aware that for some die-hard movie version fans, the song swaps may have been a little controversial—personally, I loved them and some of them created my favourite moments. The way some of the famous pop hits were adapted to make you really hear the message was masterful and fitted the storyline like a glove. I particularly loved the slower version of Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’ (which I personally loathe in its original format) performed by Satine, as well as Sia’s ‘Chandelier’ in the absinthe-drinking scene and Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’ as the soundtrack to the memorable backstage romance dance act.

We loved every single second of this show! The world-class cast were so insanely talented it’s simply impossible for me to pick a favourite. Each and every single one of them was a triple threat, worthy of attention. Flashing lights, exceptional staging, and incredibly impressive costumes made this production a delicious feast for the eyes.

Hands down, this is the one to go to. Moulin Rouge! The Musical now sits firmly in my top three shows I have ever watched at Theatre Royal Plymouth. I do know I mention it a fair bit in my reviews, but we are incredibly lucky to have productions of this size and quality come to this neck of the woods, so don’t miss it.

Royal William Yard Debut Month Long Literary Festival This September.

The RWY Royal William Yard, is debuting its first-ever literary festival this September. Named Read Write Yap, a clever play on the site’s initials (RWY), the month long festival transforms the Yard’s historic buildings, outdoor lawns, and harborside into a celebration of reading, writing, and spoken word.

Festival Highlights

📘 Community Led Talent: The lineup shines a spotlight on local Plymouth creatives, independent booksellers, coastal authors, and spoken word performers.

📗 Diverse Events: Visitors can dive into history talks, cocktail-paired book clubs, spoken word nights, and even a maritime mythology workshop hosted partly at sea.

📙 Youth & Whimsical Extras: Features a children’s short story competition, a "blind date with a book" station (where readers choose books by clues rather than covers), and a dedicated stick library for dogs.

📕 The Grand Finale (Sept 27): The festival culminates in the Read Write Yap Market on The Green. Run by the team behind the Yard's popular Good Food and Craft Market, this final day book fair brings together independent artisans, authors, and booksellers on the lawn.

The festival runs all month long with a flexible, relaxed, drop in structure, and additional events will be added to the schedule throughout September.

WHAT’S ON

From 1st September, a number of fixtures run across the Yard for the whole month:

🔸 Second-hand bookstall, Pop-Up Shop, Unit 5, Arcade. A shifting selection of preloved titles to browse and buy throughout September.
🔸 Blind date with a book, Pop-Up Shop, Unit 5, Arcade. Pick up a parcel wrapped in brown paper and string, read the clues – genre, mood, a hint of what’s inside – and take a chance on a book you haven’t met yet. Available for a small fee.
🔸 Big Little Story Competition, Pebble, Unit 2, Arcade. A short story competition for young writers aged 5 to 10. Two age categories, one prompt – “It all started when I found…” – and up to 250 words to run with it. Entry sheets available in store. Every child who enters receives a Storytelling Star certificate; winners take home a hamper of books and treats.
🔸 Dog stick library, outside Nala’s Pet Co, Arcade. The festival’s canine-friendly offering. A dedicated spot where four-legged visitors can borrow a stick, enjoy it thoroughly and, unlike a library, keep it. No library card required!
🔸 Hai Coo’s Trail haiku display, Melville Corner. All 20 poems from Hai Coo’s Trail – the public haiku installation curated by Plymouth’s Laureate of Words R.C.
🔸 Thomas in conjunction with Literature Works – brought together in one place at Royal William Yard for the first time.

All Saints Students Explore Engineering Careers at Princess Yachts

Year 10 students from All Saints Academy Plymouth gained a behind-the-scenes insight into how world-class yachts are designed and built during a visit to Princess Yachts.

Students visited the company’s South Yard facility, where they learned how its luxury motor yachts are developed and manufactured. The visit gave students the chance to see how ideas from the classroom are applied in a real engineering environment.

The experience brought their Engineering Design lessons to life, with students seeing how ideas move from the early design stage through testing and development before becoming finished products.

A highlight was seeing the mock-up facility, where interior spaces for the X95 yacht were created and tested with clients. Students learned how designers use prototyping, ergonomics and customer feedback to refine their ideas before production.

Students also explored the use of composite materials, building on knowledge gained during a previous visit to Composite Integration Ltd, where they created a resin injection machine similar to those used to manufacture yacht hulls.

The visit helped students get to know the range of careers available in design, engineering and manufacturing, while showing how the skills they develop in school can connect to the world of work.

All Saints Academy Plymouth, part of the Ted Wragg Trust, has a strong focus on engineering. Its partnerships with local employers give students opportunities to build practical skills, explore careers and see how their learning connects to the needs of Plymouth’s engineering and manufacturing industries.

Scott Simpson-Horne, Headteacher at All Saints Academy Plymouth, said:

“This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to step inside a world-leading business and see design and engineering in action. The visit gave them a valuable insight into the range of careers available and helped them understand how their learning can open doors for the future.”

Moira Marder, CEO of the Ted Wragg Trust, said:

“Working with employers gives students the chance to see where their learning can take them and explore careers they may not have considered before. We are proud to support opportunities like this, which connect our schools with their wider community and help young people understand the possibilities available to them.”
