A VOICE OF A TRUE BARBICAN MAID
10th September 1941 to 6th October 2004

28 years ago, Diana Dorcas Kelway featured on the Channel 4 documentary 'Rude Britannia,' campaigning in Vauxhall Street on the Barbican against a formidable tide of change on the quay in 1998. (Clip featured talking about the drunken & rowdy behaviour outside the flat window in the early hours).

She was our staunch matriarch and growing up she was my chief defender with an uncanny eye on the future. A wise owl, and I still desperately miss her. But as time flows she brings nothing but smiles and wonderful memories.

Our Diana will always be remembered by those who loved her and the family she stubbornly didn't want to leave. She endured so much pain in her cancer fight to stay - but in the end her body could take no more.

I'll always remember that rainbow, just seconds after she finally let go, and the most beautiful and peaceful smile on her face when her last breath faded away.

These last hours are the most withering moments, but rest assured, I'm convinced she is sat at that window with sleeves rolled up, and watching and waiting.

From the boy with all my heart and soul. X

WEDDING CAKE PETITION REACHES 1,500 SIGNATURES

From total indifference to now potential TLC works to restore Plymouth's Belvedere, says the Labour Council – let's wait & see?

Our national petition will shortly go to His Majesty the King to underline that fine words and sympathy are not enough, but action is now needed to restore this much-loved national city monument.

Kevin Kelway, said: "I wish to thank people from across Plymouth and the UK for supporting my petition and adding your collective voices in wanting this iconic Plymouth landmark restored to its former glory and memorial garden."

HAPPY 91 YEARS OF AGE TINSIDE LIDO

Tinside Lido has played a crucial role in the life of the city for the last 91 years.

In the darkest hours during the 1990s, when the lido was derelict and under threat of demolition with few friends in the city council and business establishment, our small group of volunteers set to work to campaign for its restoration.

I've celebrated this day every year since 1998, and our formidable community campaign saw the Lido's grand reopening in 2003.

We stood daily on the corner of Old Town Street in Plymouth collecting 70,000 paper signatures in all weathers, and one of the turning points was the day we celebrated our successful Grade 2 listing applications for the art deco pool and Tinside colonnade in total opposition against the local council in 1998 and 2000, respectively.

A day of reflection and memories of the wonderful volunteers, many of whom have now passed away, that fought the campaign with me from 1998 to 2003.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TINSIDE LIDO.
