Today is International Menβs Day πββοΈ
Whilst traditionally not something celebrated in the UK, considering the turmoil going on around us at the moment, perhaps it's worth a moment to reflect on some of our heroes or people who have inspired us.
This is certainly a more personal one for me and I think this image captures Sir Alex Ferguson perfectly. One man stood up, showing character and leadership in both the good and bad times of his Manchester United β½ career.
I realise I'm in danger of upsetting a few people here, especially the non π΄ Manchester United fans but here me out.
In recent years, Britain has developed a 'build them up to knock them down' celebrity culture. We love to hail people as one of us and try to relate to them yet, at the first sign of trouble or a mistake we're quick, especially those in the media, to destroy them.
Everybody then discards them for the next new shinny celebrity, only to then rinse and repeat.
In today's cut-throat culture, would Sir Alex have survived the first few years of his tenure, would Manchester United have become the dominate club they became for such a long time without him?
My point is, we're all human. We're all fallible. Yet despite this, we all have the power to do great things, inspire others and be better people. Sir Alex will always for me be an inspiration for both his successes and failures and I'm sure, even the avid of opposition football fans grudgingly admire his achievements.
I feel privileged to have watched many games at Old Trafford π under his leadership.
I've taken personal responsibility for today's post rather than leave it to the team as this one matters to me.
Normal service to be resumed next week π
