"Why do you want this website?"

This should be the number one question that any website designer asks you when you first start working together.

Not "What should it look like?"
Not "What's your budget?"
Not "Can you show me any other websites that you like?"

"Why?"

An early answer to the question of "why" tells us so much - when we hear in your own words - where you see that website sitting within your business.

Your website should be an asset to you. It should serve a purpose and add value.

When the essential early-stage conversations are skipped (such as asking "why?") the end result is often underwhelming and off-target.

It might be pretty, but ultimately you'll find yourself wondering - why do I have this website? What did I spend my money on? How has this website lent itself to the service of my goals?

If your website designer isn't asking you "why", they really should be.

Websites have become such a commodity over the last few years with DIY services such as Wix, Weebly and Squarespace dominating the market for small businesses, startups, sole-traders and SMEs.
