Over the past year, we’ve managed over £2M in paid ads across Meta, Google, TikTok and more.

And honestly, a lot of what people think works in advertising… just doesn’t anymore.

Last year I broke this down in Business Eye:

A few things that are very clear right now:

• “Set and forget” automation kills performance
• Creative fatigue is happening faster than ever
• First party data is no longer optional
• Scaling too fast destroys efficiency

What’s interesting is none of this is really about platforms.

It’s about understanding the customer journey properly.

That’s still where most businesses go wrong.

Since this was published, if anything, these trends have only accelerated into 2026.

Scaling Meta Ads sounds simple.

Just increase the budget… right?

Wrong.

We recently saw a campaign performing well, until the budget was doubled overnight.

What happened next?

• CPMs spiked
• Conversions stalled
• Performance dropped fast

This is where most brands go wrong.

Meta’s algorithm doesn’t reward aggressive scaling, it punishes instability.

Here’s what actually works:

• Increase budgets gradually (20–30% every 48–72 hours)
• Duplicate winning ad sets instead of overloading one
• Refresh creative consistently to avoid fatigue
• Use cost controls to protect CPA as you scale

Scaling isn’t about spending more.

It’s about scaling correctly.

Get it right → you compound performance
Get it wrong → you burn budget fast

A special day for me today, absolutely honoured to have been invited to judge the Young Enterprise NI regional market competition in my hometown of Craigavon at Rushmere Shopping Centre.

A brilliant experience alongside Cathy Morrison and the wider YENI team, and my co-judge Michael Savage, seeing firsthand the creativity, confidence, and innovation in the pitches from the students.

I mentioned to a few of the other judges that events like this genuinely give me real optimism for the future. It’s clearly in safe hands with such engaged, passionate, and articulate young people, many of whom are already building businesses aimed at improving lives and helping others.
