Cloud Storage SCAM -
At 123 Simples we have multiple email addresses that we use across various domain names, so when we see emails coming in we are acutely aware that a lot of them are spam - scammers trying to rip you and us off. But for many people what makes it more difficult for them, is they use mobile phones as their main computer, so judging if an email looks dodgy is not that easy for them. Just watch out. Here is todays example, with a handy link to what we know would take your money from you in a heartbeat:

Your Payment Method Has Expired
We're unable to renew your Cloud Storage. Please update your payment information to avoid disruption to your service.
If your storage is full, you can upgrade your plan to ensure you have enough space for your files and backups.

Google Business Profiles - Keep it trustworthy and reliable!

Your Google Business Profile is a valuable tool for connecting with customers. Here is a quick reminder for anyone who has a Google Business Listing how to make sure that your business profile meets the right criteria:

1. Keep your information online accurate and up to date;
2. Make sure that everything you publish clearly and accurately represents your business and what it offers;
3. Welcome all genuine customer feedback - whether that might be good or bad - all businesses need to be fair and transparent so -

- Accept all reviews, positive and negative. Don't selectively solicit positive reviews or pressure customers to leave a particular review.
- Don’t pay for reviews or offer incentives like discounts or freebies for reviews.
- Don’t solicit positive reviews from employees or anyone affiliated with your company, and never post negative content intended to harm the reputation of your competitors.

If you do all these things, then the chances are that your business will flourish on Google. Any content posted that violates Google’s policies, guidelines and terms of service will be removed, and your Business Profile could be restricted. If you see a review that’s inaccurate or inappropriate, you can report it.

Billions of people use Social Media platforms everyday. Sadly so do criminals and they want to make easy money without even breaking into your home. Common scams to watch out for are:

Purchase Scams -
Criminals will advertise non-existent or sub-standard products online. They will show you images, videos and try to show you the items are real. When you pay for these, the goods don't turn up, and worse still, some websites will then steal your banking data.

Romance Scams -
Who doesn't want to feel loved? So dating and online forums are easy ways for criminals to connect with you. Watch out for people getting in touch, building up trust, then suddenly asking for money out of the blue.

Are you trusting? It's human nature to be trusting, but criminals and scammers use social engineering in convincing ways...

Are you trusting? It's human nature to be trusting, but criminals and scammers use social engineering in convincing ways to get money from you, or extract confidential information. There are at least 3 ways they may do this:

1. Phishing, Vishing and Smishing - these are fake emails, phone calls or text messages supposedly from a friend or family member or even a trusted organisation. They're used to get you to give scammers your personal or financial information;
2. Remote access – this is when a criminal tricks you into letting them take control of your device. They do this by getting you to click on a link or download an app which gives them access to everything on it;
3. Pressure - this happens when a scammer puts pressure on you to pay for something quickly, for example, a limited time offer. They're trying to panic you into making a payment without thinking it through.

What to watch out for:

- Never assume a text message or email (however genuine it might look) is legit;
- See an offer to good to be true - well 9 times out of 10 it will be and all they want is your money;
- Never download apps or click links, open attachments especially when you have not been expecting them;
- Emails, texts or phone calls telling you that your device has a virus, or there is a problem;
- If you normally pay by bank transfers to a business, and out of the blue they give you new bank instructions, then call the business and make sure this was indeed them.
