Following on from our ‘purple’ post the other day, we can look forward to seeing two more from the same family next season; aubergine and plum.

Aubergine appears in our Deep palette and is a fabulous colour for knitwear, coats and an alternative to the little black dress. Deeps can wear this with contrast or tonally.

Plum also appears in the Deep palette, but as an add-on colour for those with a cool undertone. So if you are Deep & Cool, look out for this more jewel-like purple. Enjoy adding to your existing wardrobe by way of tops and accessories to give your outfits a fresh, modern feel.

Sharing this again because it’s an important aspect of how we assess our clients:

Most people understand depth (how light or dark a colour is) and undertone (how warm or cool it is), but there’s a third property of colour: clarity.

Clarity refers to how pure or muted a colour appears. Bright, vibrant colours reflect light, while softer, dusty shades absorb it.
Even when the depth and undertone are right, clarity can make all the difference. Softer colouring is often overwhelmed by bright shades, while those with stronger colouring can find muted colours dull or draining.

For example, Sophie Ellis-Bextor shines in clear emerald green, whereas Kylie Minogue looks her best in softer, gentler tones. Clarity also affects fabric choice - satin enhances colour intensity by reflecting light, while jersey softens it by absorbing light.

As we all have an element of clarity in our colouring, it’s an important factor to consider when choosing clothes and make-up.
