Instagram has recently announced that they would be moving their primary metric over to views, but what does this mean? ‡
π Views will now be the primary metric that is reported in Instagram Insights across ""all organic and boosted media formats which includes reels, live, photos, carousels and stories.
π Essentially, rather than Instagram Insights showing reach and impressions for photo-based posts and views for reels, EVERYTHING will include views as the primary metric.
π‘ Views will be measured by the number of times a reel started to play or replay and the number of times a non-reel appeared on a person's screen.
π Other metrics such as accounts reached, accounts engaged, interactions and watch time will still be shown in Insights, but won't be as prominent as they currently are (being replaced with 'views')
π§ But why? For months Instagram has been reiterating that follower count isn't everything and instead, they were more focused on content that people enjoy (hence their shift to sharable content and emphasising share metrics). Changing metrics over to 'views' is a good indicator of how many people are interested in your content so it isn't a surprising step.
