Painting A Big 'Northern' Mural in Preston
Last week I got to work on a unique project, turning my Northern letters into a mural in Preston city centre. It was a collaboration with artist Shawn Sharpe, something we had been chatting about for a while. At first I was just going to give Shawn the go ahead to paint it without me, but Shawn wanted the project to be a collaboration. I'm so glad he did because it was an ace project to be a part of!
It’s part of a larger project backed by Preston City Council to brighten up disused shop fronts. For Shawn and I it was a chance to explore Northern identity & hopefully spark Northern pride in other people
For me it was also a big step out of my comfort zone. Shawn has always insisted that I be part of the painting process, so it was great to be involved in some public artwork instead of sitting behind a laptop all the time
All of my work aims to celebrate The North and being Northern. Designs that are bold, eye-catching, tactile and humorous, all with the aim of making people feel
proud to be Northern. This mural felt like a great opportunity to add to that idea. Soz if you hate it!

I'm back on home turf this weekend! On Saturday I'll be peddling prints at Preston Makers Market on the Flag Market. I'll have my usual stash of Northern prints and merch. Let's see if I manage to sell any Northern prints after last week's mural project 👀

So I helped Shawn Sharpe out last week and we painted a big 'Northern' in the centre of Preston. I'll do a couple of proper posts later this week, but for now you can look at this if you're interested
Thanks for all the nice comments/messages so far. Obviously the only ones I've paid attention to are the guy that shouted 'that looks fücken s**t' as he walked past, the lass that commented 'it looks stupid', and the guy that commented that it just looks like 'standard gang tag graffiti'
This was fun to do but it definitely won't be marking a career change, my ego is too fragile. You can't please everyone I guess 😂

The collab between Shawn Sharpe and Secret Industries' Tim Bridges is the first in a series across the city centre
