This Sunday I'll be heading down to your gaff for the first time to peddle my wares at Whalley's monthly Artisan Market hosted by Crafty Vintage. A few traders and customers have recommended this to me, apparently they are fond of being Northern too… September has been pretty brutal for markets, so I've got all my fingers crossed for this! If you know someone down that way and they want some Northern prints and merch, send 'em my way 👍🏻

Not everything I make turns out like the photos. Here's what happened last week…
Nope, that's not a bit of fluff or dirt on your screen. That's a scratch on a fresh new print I was getting ready for one of my markets. This usually happens when I'm tired or in some sort of rush, I make a mistake and lose a product or two. Sometimes it's worse, I'll get a whole batch of prints delivered that have been bashed in transit or the colour is completely off - that is a bit more of a headache to sort out
This is a minor one thankfully. at this stage I can just print another couple of copies. But some of my designs spend literally months on my laptop before they see the light of day. The custom lettering for my 'Northern' prints took quite a while to get it looking how I wanted. I had to learn a couple of 'new' little tricks in Adobe Illustrator to get it finished. All these little trials are part of the process!
Thankfully if you're picking it up at one of my stalls or seeing it in the online shop, that means I've figured everything out and it's ready to go home with you

On Saturday I will be back again trading at Campfield Market in Manchester. I'll be back at my usual slot inside the awesome market hall, hoping to make some sort of recovery for what has been a very tough month on the stall scene for Secret Industries. Behind The Scenes - I'm currently working on a fresh, new webstore. I'm 'upgrading' to Shopify because it feels a bit more professional that my current marketplace set-up. However, I hate doing stuff like this so I'm proper being a child about it, sulking and dragging my feet 😂

A customer said “How could I resist. My entire personality in one GORG print. I'm in love”. Here's why that meant more to me than they will probably know
When I started taking the business side of Secret Industries more seriously, there was a period where all the work I was creating and selling was my attempt at guessing what customers would want to buy. Recently though, as I've gained a little bit more confidence, I've started leaning into making the stuff that I would want to buy. A small distinction, but I think as an artist it's an important one - you have to make stuff that you are really happy with, otherwise you aren't going to feel fulfilled
So to receive any sort of review or positive comment about the pieces I make today means so much, because it's a little piece of validation. And also a confirmation that whatever slightly offbeat or niche thing you can imagine to make, there's always going to be a group of people who want they same thing!
These smaller 12x5in prints are perfect if you are short on wall space, or you can't convince the person you live with to agree to a massive leopard print frame!

New Print 'Prisoner Of Gravy'

Prisoner Of Gravy is a print inspired by a well known traditional tattoo motif. The original tattoo flash ‘Prisoner Of Love’ symbolises being held captive by deep emotion, romantic devotion and an attachment that you cannot or will not break. To me, this sounded like a Northerner’s relationship with gravy, which is what inspired me to create this Northern twist on a classic!
Perfect for gallery walls, tattoo studios, man caves or home offices. This print is currently in its ‘test phase’, and will be printed to order. Presented at A4 and printed in Preston on bright white 240gm ultra-matt paper for a high quality finish. All prints ship from my web$tore with tracked postage and arrive in a board-backed sleeve along with a free sticker or two!

Everyone says 'it doesn't matter who you buy from, all art prints are the same'. I disagree and here's three reasons why
Reason 01: The artwork. I don’t mean if you prefer art of cats or dogs. I mean is your print created by someone who is just copying other makers? Or someone who is truly working on developing their own craft? I spend so long thinking, planning & designing my prints. I’m still refining & developing my style now, years and years into being a designer
Reason 02: The production. Is the print made by churning out something
as cheaply & quickly as possible?! Or does the maker care about things like the print finish, the inks and the types of paper stock used? I’ve invested lots of time & money in my prints. I've found a reliable Northern printer for my core collection of prints, someone that uses quality ink finishes & FSC certified recycled paper
Reason 03: The artist. Art from a real, working artist? Or art from someone churning out cash grab, AI prompted slop? A local artist who you can connect with? Or a faceless, unknown drop-ship business? I design everything myself. Art prints for proud Northerners, made by a real Northern human
