Part of the lockdown is trying to keep busy and stay away from distractions if you can but I was doing some work on my laptop when Ramsay’s kitchen nightmares came on, it caught my eye and got me thinking. Of course the format is stubborn business owner refuses to accept sound advice, ultimately to listen to reason and have a chance on success which makes for good viewing. One of the reason these shows exist is emotion. I have worked with lots of businesses big and small and one thing many have in common is emotion regarding their business often manifesting in passion but in cases it can be control and stubbornness to change. Often it’s hard to separate for a person what works for the business vs the idea of the business. Indeed often the business is a reflection of themselves and any departure from that stops and changes firmly in its tracks. This can be frustrating for a marketer that a few sometimes small changes can make a big difference to a business and it’s ability or make greater profits. What my approach has turned to over the years is listening to a perspective client and getting to understand how they view their business and trying to balance this with some good commercial decisions, explaining the facts and data supporting my strategy so they can still do something they love and they believe in but also making sure they can earn enough to continue to keep that passion alive.

I’ve taken opportunity to do some running 🏃 in recent weeks. With lots more time on my hands means I’ve little excuse for not getting into slightly better shape. I have to admit I find any form of exercise miserable so I like to keep my mind distracted. My mental exercise today was approximating the number of leads my team has pulled over the last 5 years, I very quickly got to over 1 million leads. An absolutely staggering amount. It just shows what you can achieve if you put your mind to it...
