Golf is having a moment.

Global participation has surged in recent years, bringing with it a whole new wave of players, events, and opportunities for brands to show up in the sport in a meaningful way.

Merch deserves a seat at the planning table 👕

Too often, branded apparel and merch are the last item on the budget. The optional extra. The "we'll see what's left at the end" line that gets hurried through in the final week.

We'd politely like to push back on that.

When you brief an event, build a campaign, or kit out a team, merch isn't a finishing touch. It's one of the most visible signals of how much you value your people, your brand, and the impression you want to leave behind. Get it right, and your team feels like they belong, your guests carry your brand long after the lights go down, and your message keeps working long after the event has wrapped.

Get it wrong, and a beautifully delivered campaign is quietly undermined by something cheap, ill-fitting, or destined for landfill before the month is out.

That's why we always encourage clients to fold merch into the plan from the very start, not bolt it on at the end. Even a modest budget, spent on fewer, better pieces, will leave more of a mark than a larger budget spent on disposable filler that nobody wears twice. Quality, considered choices, and a bit of forethought consistently outperform volume and last-minute panic.

And as we've said before, merch is far more measurable than it's often given credit for. Measure the impact created rather than the units distributed, and the return often surprises.

Festival season is almost here. Are your team and your brand actually ready?

How do you actually measure merch ROI?

It's one of the questions we get asked most often. And the honest answer is: it's broader than most brands expect.

There are the hard numbers. QR codes, unique URLs, spikes in landing page traffic. If the item has been designed with tracking built in, you can follow the journey from someone picking it up at an event all the way to your website. That's real, measurable data 📊

Then there are the softer signals: the ones that tell you whether the merch actually landed. Did people return to your stand? Did someone seek you out because of it? Did it start a conversation? 👥

And then there's longevity. We call it the 90-day test. If someone is still using your item three months later, you've made something worth keeping. If it went straight in a bag and never came out again, no eco-label or clever design will change that 🤝

Most brands measure merch ROI the wrong way round. They count units distributed, not impact created, and merch is a relationship builder, not a procurement exercise.
