You know when a plan comes together... 💡
When we set up NextGen Viva we wanted to be able to give people setting out on their careers a bit of a helping hand. To help them gain some work experience, give them a taste of what working in PR is like and hopefully make it enjoyable along the way. So when they come to apply for jobs they not only know what they're getting themselves into, they also have valuable real world experience they could put on their CV's.
As this year's NextGen intake are about to start their journey with us, we are absolutely chuffed to bits to see a year on our very first NextGener get her first job.
Maisie Pointon was a star from the start and left Viva to do an MA in PR at The University of Salford, she even came back and did another two weeks with us as part of her course earlier this year. We've stayed in touch with Maisie (part of the Next Gen programme promises regular touch points over the following six months including help and advice when i comes to job hunting) so when we saw a position going at Small City Marketing on LinkedIn, we knew it would be perfect for her and tagged her in the post.
Fast forward a few weeks and we've just had a lovely call with Jordan Price MD at Small City giving a reference for Maisie. It was also good to hear that Maisie had been singing our praises in her interview for what she learnt and the support she received - a real full circle moment.
So congratulations Maisie and well done Jordan, you've got a good one there. And for any businesses thinking about giving someone starting out in the careers some hands-on experience, do it - you never know what difference it could make.
